Not necessarily a hero, but someone who opened my eyes through his comedy was George Carlin. His social critiques and sarcasm made me realize what a cesspool society really is.

Why is it that right-wingers/ conservatives/ libertarians, yadda yadda all love Carlin? he fucking hated those people, and just because he didn't like the government, it wasn't because he wanted to see society ran by them. "it's not the politicians that stink, it's the people that vote for them."

here's a few more good ones.

"Conservatives say if you don't give the rich more money, they will lose their incentive to invest. As for the poor, they tell us they've lost all incentive because we've given them too much money."

"Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It’s because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time."

"Once you leave the womb, conservatives don't care about you until you reach military age. Then you’re just what they’re looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers."

"You know what's great about all those executions in Texas? Fewer Texans."

I found the last one especially hilarious. (No offense to the people that are from Texas on the Internet and that I know in real life that I really like, which there have been more than a few of them throughout the years of my life.)
