Hannibal Rising, the story of the young Hannibal Lecter
http://imdb.com/title/tt0367959/

Some of you may of read the book, which has only been writen recently, but already it has been made into a movie.
I know some of you have a strong dislike for film producers just ripping off older movies with sequels/prequels, but i for one am really looking forward to this.

The Hannibal series has never really let me down, with the remake of Red dragon nearly being better than Silence of the lambs... The only thing that worrys me, is obviously Anthony Hopkins is no where to be seen in this film :(

So anyway, anyone got any thoughts/expectations of this?

Sorry IAF but I have to disagree.
Silence was much better than Red Dragon. Manhunter was already better than Red Dragon.
Now this prequel IMO is just way too much but we'll see.
Hopefully it will be good.

I wish they would have left this alone. I loved Silence of the Lambs and I think that one is the best of them all imo (with Red Dragon being second (I haven't seen Manhunter so I can't judge that)). Hannibal was a mystery then. We didn't know what made him tick or anything really beyond what we got. But then Hannibal the book came out and it took away a lot of his power by revealing his past.

Usually the less we know the scarier things are, and the more we learn the less impact it has and this is the way I'm feeling now about him. I'll probably see the movie when it comes out, but he's not what he once was that's for sure.

I wish they had given it more time before him releasing the book to the movie being made... I'm in between so many books right now it will be impossible to read it before the movie comes out.

as far as red dragon and manhunter goes... manhunter seems more like they just took the idea/plot of the book and based it on that than trying to make it a direct adaptation. does that make sense? it's a good movie in terms of movie standards, but it's not really like the book. Red Dragon is almost exactly like the book. that's why someone can like them both and not have it be conflicted.

the one good thing about this new movie: Its going to make Hannibal (the film) look good.

It's good to be the king...
but, how can it be better than red dragon? worse cast. hopkins and norton rule!

Puh-leeze!!! Manhunter kicked ass!!!
Brian Cox was more understated and more effective as a man-monster than "okey-dokey" Hopkins

(sorry I LOVED Manhunter. Liked "Silence" too, but the other Hannibal movies were so-so, imo)

i haven't seen red dragon or manhunter ...... but i did love silence of the lambs.....

which was the other one, with julianne in it? I hope this is the right series haha

I just got my hands on the book, planning to read it over Christmas. I've always been a big fan of the 'Hannibal' series, so I have high expectations from this movie (although with a different 'Hannibal' I'm not so sure!).

thats right. hopkins IS the real lecter.

Brian Cox was very good, but there is something inherently charming about Hopkins as Lecter. I never got the charm vibe from Cox.

Exactly! Cox was cold, uncaring and devoid of warmth - a true pyscho (imo) and I liked the way he treated William Petersen (Will Graham) like an intellectual inferior

In Manhunter, Cox played a blinding Dr. Hannibal Lecktor!

IMO, Manhunter is the best of all the Thomas Harris movies. William Petersen is amazing as Will Graham, and I also really liked Brian Cox as 'Lecktor'. He had a menacing air about him without being over the top like Hopkins was at times.

Interesting bit of trivia...Frankie Faison was in Manhunter, Silence, Hannibal and Red Dragon. He played Barney the orderly in the latter 3, and had a bit part as a policeman in the first.
