Halo Wars

Bought it friday, finished it saturday. Not a bad reflection on the game play, i did put in a solid 16 hours of play.

Movies - Both the plot and movie quality are fantastic, knitting perfectly into the halo timeline we are treated to a fantastic history lesson of the war 20 years prior to the "halo incident". It could quite easily set an agreeable precident for the halo movie.

Gameplay - I originally labelled halo wars as halo meets command and conquer, its not an unfair generalisation though since it is in many ways it is very similair with its own pros and cons to the usual take on RTS gameplay. (I.E Constant stream of supplies without the worry of protecting collectors, but at the expense of needing multiple resource platforms better used for a building depot)

Gameplay does get a little repetetive though only so far that on normal difficulty at least, 5 scorpions will clear a map for you with little use for troops or hogs. As before there are skulls dotted around the maps (I found 1!) but in true halo style they are ****** hard to find as well as black boxes that will open up anoher entry in the halo timeline. Some elements of the enemie tactics as well get a little annoying and having a relatively small cap on your allowed number of ground units (30 upgradeable to 40, marine squad = 1, scorpion tank = 3)

For those of us that have read the books, alot of the material here wont come as new info but still makes an interesting read. I wont give more away in regards to the plot, but I think there is plenty of potential here for more in this genre to bridge that 20 year gap.

I really enjoyed it and I'd recommend it to anyone, the limited edition doesnt offer much more than a comic, character cards and a patch (not a fabric emblem though, more a thick plastic with some apparant adhesive qualities) so if you are after a quick crack at the game, dont spend that extra £10 on the goodies.

How did you get it already if it comes out in a few days? Know someone at a store?

seen the trailers, didn't get a copy of the demo, but will buy the game....

and like true style of mine, i'll find the black boxes and skulls first.... and get pissed off for 3 weeks, then come back for online multi-play (if it has it)

Played the demo at my friends place, I actually enjoyed this alot better than the FPS Halo crap. Which I don't really like anymore anyway.

The levels do feel a little samey after a while, but your right on the story, they couldve spent a little more on character development, make us like the characters a little more, but dont get me wrong its ****** good what we do see.

(Incidentally anyone have a clue on the voice talent)

Played the demo, it made me feel embarassed, so I deleted it.

Eh I dunno...i mean it looks solid. I guess I'm just a little scared this is "Starcraft 64" all over again

I wanna try halo wars badly :P
