Half-life VS Halo

All over the internet, people are argueing which game series is better, Half-life or Halo... Except Freeones.

It's time to make a change.

This poll is for every aspect of the game... Graphics, story, gameplay, characters, weapons.

Also it includes every game from each series:
- Half life, Half life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2
- Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3

Would be good if everyone could post what they love or hate about each game, and just generally be a bunch of fan-boys and argue with each other (nicely )

Half-life.
Halo is in my opinion a bit overrated, maybe because people feel it's close since it was many gamer's first Xbox-experience. They aren't bad games, just not as good as they're hyped.

Half-life (both games) however are amongst the best games ever. Number one was unique and offered a wider FPS-experience than any previous game. The second was just a really fucking awesome game. Incredible graphics (still beats Halo if you ask me) and not to mention the gameplay. And well counting in all the third-party mods to the Half-life engine (Counter-strike, Team Fortress etc.) I don't think Halo can stand a chance versus Halo.

Oh and Gordon Freeman is definitely sexier than Master Motocross

I think the half life series is better.
I'm not much of an online gamer so the halo games didn't appeal to me as much since it focuses a lot on online mutiplayer. And the single player for half life, I think, was more enjoyable to play.

Half-Life hands down, Halo is just an average shooter thats wayyyyy over-hyped.

I love how Half-Life never gets boring because the developers focused on making sure the player never gets tired of constantly doing the same things like in other games (mainly running and shooting). They took the time to split the game up into fighting and puzzle solving and making each stage of the game unique. It has the perfect game balance and its damn fun too.

I think the only thing that keeps me going back to Halo is the multiplayer, much better than HLeathmatch... Although you could include CounterStrike as part of the Half Life series, in that case, Half life wins again..

The gravity-gun is also the best weapon ever created

Never played HL or any of the add-ons etc and I just didn't enjoy HF2, that was due to the hype to it being an amazing game, what I saw was:

The same health / armour meter system from DOOM and hey look! Exploding barrels, how original!

Halo.

First game, superb in every way (granted the graphics are looking a bit dated now), and there are health packs laying around, but armour shields lift the damage system, plus melee is really fun.

Halo II.

Better graphics, deeper story that needed to be edited a little more, no health packs at all, weapons toned down from original game, Brutes are just damage sponges, ahem, no ending.

Halo III.

OMG, best graphics of the series, health regeneration system still in play, weapons still a little underpowering, Flood and Brutes now worth fighting through, great story arch, great characters & voice acting, also trilogy nicely tied up at the end.

I think Half-Life is THE FPS for the PC crowd, Halo is THE FPS for console owners.

it's much better on PC, buy the Orange Box it has all of the series (except the first game) and 2 other awesome new games ...it's worth it's price in gold.



As for me--Dave already knows my answer--I have to go with Half-Life.
Don't get me wrong, I love Halo and can't wait to play Halo3 (I haven't yet played it ), but it's the story of an FPS thatgets me hooked. The story of the HL series so sooo much more interesting and complex.
On top of the story, the game play is very cool, especially in the Episodic trillogy so far...Alyx is an amazing companion. Not to mention every HL enthusiast is in love with her. And there also the mystery of the G-Man. The Characters are interesting, and the good guys are so likable.
The weapons...oh the weapons. 4 words "Zero-point Energy Manipulator," AKA: grav-gun. Best weapon ever invented... except for the portal gun which is new to the HL world, in the game PORTAL. The weapons are just loads of fun...though they were a little more creative in the first Half-Life.
As a PC game, the graphics keep on getting better, no complaints at all there.

On top of it all PC games have the ability to me moded and for third-pary groups to make Mod games using the physics engine. Of all the PC games, HL2 has the largest modding community. Before HL2, half-life had all the mods.

With all this, there is just no way you can say the Halo series is better than the Half-Life series. Halo is good fun, but not better.


Lastly, Valve is a much more respectable company than Microsoft.

half-life by far the makers of half-life are way better than bungie and have been making kick ass games for longer and if you check it out many more games have been made using the first half-life code than anything else since !!

Halo didn't do it for me though, it just seemed like another boring FPS to me. For me it's the complete opposite , even though I try to love the half life games , I can't seem to do it . I'm playing the orange box right now and I can't seem to get into it at all . Halo on the other hand is always a pleasure to play for me .

Orange box does kick ass.

Shame you're not getting in to it, the story is gripping. Especially the ending to Episode 2, nearly brought a tear to my eye...

I'm replaying the original half life 2 right now , maybe I should move on to episodes 1 and 2 . Are they better than the original game ?

They are a lot shorter, episode 1 is good but it's manly just expanding the story, and it does kinda feel just like the first game. But episode 2 is amazing, it's completely differen't and takes it to a whole new level.

When I was talking about Half Life I was referring to the original Half Life. HL2 was fun for me and all but Half Life 1 really got me into the FPS genre (Quake II did for me as well but HL made it that much for fun).

Thanks for the info Dave , I think I will try to speed up playing HL2 so that I can get to episodes 1 and 2 as soon as possible .
