Guy Who Financed Battle Against Gay Marriage Ending His Own 43-year Marriage!

This IS one ironic divorce. Yet, it's almost predictable, isn't it? So, perhaps it's not ironic at all...

:dunno:

Excerpt:

In July 2008, hotelier and developer Doug Manchester donated $125,000 to help gather signatures for a proposition that would ban same-sex marriage in California. The early money was crucial to getting the initiative—which ultimately passed—on the ballot. At the time, he told The New York Times that he made the donation because of “my Catholic faith and longtime affiliation with the Catholic Church,” which preferred that marriage remain between a man and a woman. Indeed, the Catholic Church has vehemently opposed gay marriage. Then again, it’s also not too keen on divorce.

On Oct. 9, 2008, Manchester ended 43 years, eight months and nine days of marriage to Elizabeth Manchester by moving out of their La Jolla abode. The couple spent the next several months trying to reach a quiet settlement on how best to distribute millions of dollars in cash and other assets. In July, those talks totally broke down, and Doug started playing financial hardball with Elizabeth, allegedly draining the couple’s shared accounts and stealing her mail. On Aug. 6, Elizabeth filed a petition for redress in family court. All of the information in this story comes from those petitions. CityBeat contacted attorneys for both parties, but neither returned calls by press time.

The court records say Doug pushed very hard for a speedy divorce agreement after he moved out, but Elizabeth would have none of it. She insisted on hiring lawyers and forensic accountants to fully assess Doug’s assets.

Conspiracy...
Does he think he's "gay" now?

Is this really a news story is my "queer-y" (?)
I'm pro "conventional fatherhood" myself.

Is that extreme far right wing radicalism ? :1orglaugh

A guy who was a major financier to a movement to protect the "sanctity of marriage" is not able to hold his own marriage together. No matter which side of the issue you're on, it seems newsworthy to me.

I think it's very obvious that gay marriage and not only that but just the threat of gay marriage was the cause of this upright gentleman's divorce. Things just have not been right since gays have been started to be treated like people. :D

I don't quite see the relevance between divorce and gay marriage but good story I guess...:dunno:

It's just another over blown story by the media to justify their puppet masters view points.

See he is against "gays" therefore he is now getting a divorce...

They are trying to connect two puzzle pieces that do not fit together.

Me either.

The relevance is that the anti gay marriage brigade says that gay marriage will doom traditional marriage. As you can see by the divorce of these two traditional marriage partners they are correct.

The article doesn't really mention why they got divorced unless I just entirly missed it...

Gay's should be premitted to get married. They have the right to be misareable and nagged at day in a day out just as much as every straight guy.

Ugh, its really not news worthy.
Its actually a lame attempt to bash non gays and the churches.
So the guy got a divorce, so do something like 60% of all married people sooner or later......in the USA

I don't think this is a "lame attempt" to bash "non-gays" and the churches as you say. Facial King was just pointing out the typical hypocrisy of those behind measures against gay people. And since when not being gay means you have to be against equal rights for gays??

This man claims to have donated more than 100K to anti-gay marriage proponents because of his religious faith, but he cannot even follow the doctrine himself, which believes that marriage is "sacred" and forever; completely against divorce. I say that's BS, he donated out of personal animousity towards gay people and this divorce just shows that he's another hypocrite masquarading his bigoted feelings behind a religion he is not even loyal to.

Why are some people so keen to keep gays from an institution that already has 60% chance of failure, as you mentioned? Divorce, such as this, is what is undermining marriage, not gay marriage.

But the one that really could do with a long, long sleep.

The Anti-Gay-Activist just shows perfectly in the article that being anti-gay-love is being about anti-love, in a nutshell.

And so his own marriage ended without the basement it once may have been built upon.

Hmm, well isn't this the pot calling the kettle black or some other hypocritical statement. However such is the nature of people who tend to be against something they don't understand or maybe they do understand on a personal level and wish to hide it from the masses.
