Guns and the mentally ill.

The last thing I want is ANOTHER government-run program that will dictate who is and who isn't "disturbed".

You do realize that's where the "mentally unstable" debate is going, right? If not the government, who gets to decide?

I'll up that by one. Proving that you have a "gun safe". And have the NRA contribute to this issue, by willingly and un-reimbursed, assign local reps to go to the "License" holders and verify they have an appropriate safe. With that simple thing, you receive a card stating so. This will help make the NRA more of the solution, rather than a potential problem. This is an additional safety issue, that will also help prevent accidents. I have a safe.

Again... you're letting another government official come to your home and "OK" your gun safe. What's next?

1. Letting them come to make sure your toilet is not flushing too much water?
2. Letting them come to make sure that you have switched to fluorescent bulbs?
3. Letting them come to make sure that you have the proper food in your fridge and pantry?
4. Letting them come to make sure that you are not whipping your children?

Why do you like the idea of some stranger telling you how to live your life? WTF is wrong with you?

Was a time when insane people (note that I didn't say the political correct term "mentally unstable") were sent off by family members to insane asylums.

But, once again the government (with their liberal agendas) stepped in and said that was unfair. That a doctor would have to see him or her first. And of course, session after session, group meetings, group therapy, meds, more therapy, blah blah blah..... and before long they were right back in society.

Xfire.... my point is, why does it ALWAYS have to be the responsibility of the GOVERNMENT to make our decisions for us? When is enough, enough???

Bloomberg:

No sodas
No firearms
No salt
No cigarettes
No toy guns for kids
No leaving your car running at idle in the summer time with your air conditioning running.

WTF.... over?

Decisions that affect society as a whole are in the realm of government oversight. It's part of the social contract. Decisions that affect only the person making them should be left to the individual.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.

Just a note dude. Insane isn't actually a medical term, but a legal one. No person would be diagnosed "insane", but rather a legal team would use it to cover a variety of issues a person had, as a defense to try and get him out of prison, or commuted to life, as opposed to death.

The would plead "insanity" to cover sociopaths, or psychopaths.

However you did touch on a point that bugs the fuck out of me. The drugs...every day you hear a new commercial from some law firm trying to get momentum for a class action law suit, that covers some affliction created by a drug that got fast tracked, probably by an ex-politician, that got his job by making promises to the big pharmaceutical companies. You never hear toxicology, beyond illegal drugs or alcohol. What are the side/after effects of all of these psychotropic meds?

Your agendas however are all legitimate, right? Like the following:

1. You don't want to be told by the government that you can't marry someone of the same sex.
2. You don't want to be told that you can't smoke pot or do any other illegal drugs.
3. You don't want same sex marriages to be told they cannot adopt children.
4. You don't want the government telling you that you can't watch porn.
5. You wouldn't like it if the government said that porn websites are forever now banned and illegal.

Yet, according to you and others, my agendas have no merit, where as all of yours do?

If you don't want these things to be forbidden, then don't vote for politicians that would forbid them... like the GOP would.

Listen this isn't a dick size contest. We both know I've been shooting for a long ass time. I was merely offering a prescriptive that could aid in calming the anti's out there.

Now... in the fucked up state of California (not Colorado which is quite liberal in their gun laws) I have to sign off on a piece of paper stating the brand and make of safe that I have, to satisfy the legal scum that run this state. In fact, I can tell you the brand but as for model number... why would I remember that? So I just write down a couple numbers and letters. No one ever checks it. Not a single time has that ever been confirmed.

It's important to have these devices locked up when not in use or as a front line utilization. Not only are they expensive but there can be legal ramifications involved. Especially in fucked up California. Now I don't like Wayne LaPierre. I never have. But I see, using the NRA to help the cause by having your fellow supporters of the 2nd bolster your standing in a way that says....

"We of the NRA want to do our part, not just be a lobby, but take a very active role in the country and use our skills to help define and make safe for the future."

That's what Wayne should have said. Best way to avoid a nutjob (or an uneducated kid) from getting hold of a device is to lock it up.

Your logic is well meant. But..... criminals do not buy gun safes. They steal guns and loan their guns and disobey all laws. That is why they are called outlaws -- They live outside the law.

How did you get that from my statement. I said nothing about outlaws or stealing of. You have a small safe. Am I wrong. You posted a photo once.

I'm talking extending the abilities of the responsible gun owner, to keep us separated from the "outlaws", I prefer to just call them filth and or scum. This also gives the left wing people less to complain at us about and come after us. In addition this tactic keeps the weapons out of the mentally deficient, and scum that break into your house when you're off at a hog rally.

What about a schitzo?

maybe one personality could be a responsible gun owner by another not.

Unless you have had run ins on record with the law regarding bizarre behavior or have been diagnosed with a mental problem already, proving someone is mentally incapable of having a firearm is tough to do (unless its rigged).
I suppose the GOV could force the person who wants a gun to go to a shrink for clearance( at the citizens expense I'm sure).
basically get your "I'm not nuts" certificate, but even that is almost useless considering a shrink can't tell much by one meeting with a person.

If we don't pass laws because criminals don't follow them, why are we bothering with laws ?
Criminals drive faster than the sepped limits, let's suppress these limits !
Junkies do drugs, criminzls sell drugs, let's legalise drugs !
Crminals kill, let's legalise murder !

For once Sam is right!!!!!!!!!!
They get their guns from you. Yes, you are the problem, flooding our society with guns make them cheap and easy to find.

I forget...didn't we once have a program to get rid of the mentally ill and other wise drain. I think Adolf Jost wrote something on this.

Nice try. But you see, the difference between me and a criminal is.. I buy my firearms and ammunition from a reputable gun store. I don't loan out my guns, I don't file serial numbers off of my guns and, I keep my guns in a gun-safe. That includes my pistols, rifles, shotguns, most of my ammo, and my magazines. What you and other misinformed anti-gunners call "clips".

Again, nice try at laying the blame on me for the illegal shit that the criminals do. When I wanted to go hunting, I took Hunter Safety classes,I went through a background check in order to lawfully carry a concealed weapon. I am extremely responsible when it comes to myself and my firearms.

Again, nice try Nit Whit, at pushing the blame off on the law abiding, rather than blaming the criminals.

And as for you saying I flood society with guns making them "cheap and easy to buy"... Well, that's just total ignorance on your part. I have NEVER sold any of my guns to a stranger. And actually, I very seldom even sell my firearms. If I do, it's usually to a relative or, I trade it in for a different firearm. Plus, I don't buy inexpensive firearms.

So when it comes to firearms, you need to keep your cock-sucker closed, as it is obvious you don't know WTF you're talking about.

That's funny, because I sold all of my guns at the last gun show, to a nice dark skinned man, with a long thick beard, and a heavy middle eastern accent. I was a little concerned with his "death to America" shirt, with the picture of a burning flag on it, but he had a valid I.D., so I figured, it's my leaders that are trying to take my rights, not him, what the hell....maybe he'll get some good use out of them! He gave me twice what they were worth!

This is how I believe the vast majority of gun owners are already. Follow the law and keep them safe. Do this and there is no problem. Only take them out when you want or need to use them. The owner has a number. The gun has a number. All can be traced. Pretty fucking simple. What more do you want?

Almost all of these folks have had a history of metal illness or at the very least, antisocial behavior.

The priority needs to be on keeping guns out of the hands and homes of people with mental illness. That will be more effective than banning the sale of certain guns.

Adam Lanza's mother had legal firearms and belonged to a gun safety club. It didn't stop her son from getting into the area where his mother's guns were kept and killing her before massacring children and teachers.

This is a woman...a inexplicably ignorant woman...that had told people, "you CANNOT turn your back on him, even for a minute", and SHE taught him how to shoot. I can't understand how a person could be so careless and ignorant. For all we know, he got his mother to open the safe/cabinet, under the pretense that they would be going out shooting, and then he killed her. But still, if you're into guns, and you have mentally ill people in your family, find a friend that will let you put the safe at their house, or NEVER let him near them, fuck, she was rich enough, she could have had a room built with an actual BANK SAFE, and kept them there. If she were alive today, I would be an advocate of her being charged with a number of crimes, including 2nd degree murder, maybe manslaughter.
