From "My Cross To Bear" by Gregg Allman..
September, 2011
I was sitting up talking, and I just kind of nodded off. But I didn't nod off; I was Code Blue. I was ******** inside, and I was drowning in my own *****.
What I remember is that I went to ***** and I had the most incredible dream. It was almost like a still life, and the air smelled so good and music was playing. I always have music in my dreams, and whatever type of music it is, it sets the whole mood for whatever's happening. If it's a nightmare, it's some nasty music. But this music was beautiful.

I was standing at a bridge and it was twilight, and somebody was on the other side. They weren't motioning, they were just looking at me, but the message got through: don't come across this bridge. It was all so beautiful, I wanted to go over there and see who it was. All I could see was a silhouette of the person, with hair down to their shoulders. It appeared to be my *******. Maybe it was just somebody standing in my room, I don't know. But somebody was there, telling me not to come across that bridge. It's not my time yet.

RIP, Gregg....and thanks.

I was fortunate enough to see him twice in the past couple years, and I once took a road trip down to Macon to see their museum and pay my respects at Rosehill. It's not totally unexpected given that he'd had liver problems but it's still shocking to hear. I may have to make another trip down to Macon soon.

These rock stars dying has me thinking about my own mortality and even more, just what kind of world are we going to leave to Keith Richards?

I especially like the first 2 Allman Brothers' albums and enjoyed watching/listening their live performances. I also remember Gregg Allman from the movie Rush. He is definitely an icon and his music will last forever. RIP.

He died in Savannah Georgia, one of my favorite places on earth. I didn't know he had been living there.

He's a Georgia boy so it kinda makes sense.

Another band I never got to see. I would have chose the Duane Allman years....but I was very young then. I still would have loved to see them though...as long as Dicky Betts was in the line up.

At Filmore East is still one of my favorites. I sing "Whipping Post" at work all the time. Godspeed, GA. :angels:

Great song on the flip side, if it's on vinyl....my personal favorite by the band, "Hotlanta".
