i dont want to be a troll... but paranoid is their SECOND album

Oh? What was their first album, then? As far as I know Paranoid was their first album as Black Sabbath. They had something under whatever name they were known as before, but as far as I know Paranoid was the first album they recorded as Black Sabbath.

I was going to say, I thought their self-titled was their debut. It was a damn powerful album, and few (if any) weak spots. I thought about that one as well as a few others some have posted. My "honorables" were just more than anything some of my personal favorites. I don't think any rap album should even be considered in the discussion, although I love rap. I don't think a lot of others listed should be considered in any "greatest" category.

My criteria were twofold: Critical success and mainstream (sales) success. "Groundbreaking" could be a third - something that changed the whole entire scene of music ('Nevermind' wasn't Nirvana's debut, but that album totally destroyed "hair metal" and similar styles; some of the punk stuff here [Ramones, etc.] deserve mention) I don't think much more can be assessed, IMO.

Torn & Frayed.
Black Sabbath was their first album as Black Sabbath. Paranoid was recorded and released within a few months after - both in 1970.

Nope. Couldn't find that Black Sabbath I was referencin, BUT, did find my Michael Jackson 'Off the Wall' disc in there. Think that one begs mention.  :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Yesurrrr, I think that's right up there with Lynyrd, Hendrix, Kill 'em and....Sabbath??? I can revisit this in a couple days when I'm fully sober, I think that's a decent list of all time top five, no? ;):D

Well, I did this Google before I originally posted my first posted in this thread just to get ideas, but I found I owned quite a few of the albums, but just to let you all see a Google: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000332231
