"Westchester, NY (lohud.com) -- Westchester County Republicans dropped their twice-chosen candidate, Jim Russell, as a challenger to Rep. Nita Lowey on Tuesday after the surfacing of a 2001 essay in which he embraces eugenics, cites anti-Semitic commentary and warns against interracial marriage.
The 16-page essay titled "The Western Contribution to World History" combines scholarly language with racist theories. It accuses Jews of stealing "Western" inventions, and - citing research on goslings and finches - warns against racial mingling.
The article ran in The Occidental Quarterly, a journal classified as a **** group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It surfaced Monday on the Politico website.
Russell is a perennial candidate from Hawthorne and a longtime activist for immigration enforcement. He was endorsed by the GOP for the second time this year to run against Democrat Lowey.
"We're going to pull the plug on him immediately," said Westchester GOP Chairman Doug Colety, who is also a county election commissioner. He said he wanted to remove Russell from the ballot altogether but wasn't sure that would be possible. Russell also has the Conservative line, and party representatives did not return calls Tuesday.
"We were unaware of any of this," Colety said, referring to the essay.
Russell writes that "parents need to be reminded that they have a natural obligation, as essential as providing food and shelter, to instill in their ******** an acceptance of appropriate ethnic boundaries for socialization and marriage." "
