Looks matter in the way that YOU have to find the person attractive..they don't have to be hot or sexy by conventional standards but in order to have chemistry, there has to be an attraction. Haven't you ever met someone who wasn't that good looking or hot to begin with but once you got to know them, they became more appealing to you? I've met some gorgeous men and women who I would never get into a relationship with because it just didn't fit, their personalities make them less attractive.
But,computer communication aside, physical appearance is what starts that process. It's what makes the initial impression. Looks get your "foot in the door", personality, attitude and what's on the inside are what may - or may not - move things along further. I've had firsthand experience of it, as I'm sure everyone else has.The myth is that men are the only ones that are visual, but I don't think that's accurate.
