hey now! my first post! as with everything, it's hard to say who is 'the best', but here are some of my current favorites:

1. Mr. John Blackwell (Prince)- buy his instructional dvd!
2. Gene Krupa - always the man
3. Bill Bruford (Yes, etc.)
4. Glenn Kotche (Wilco) - great drummer and super nice guy
5. Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam)

and i'll always love eric carr of 80's kiss... watching him play made me wanna learn the drums when i was a kid.

I won't get into it either but I fucking HATE Lars Ulrich. He is such a whiny mediocre bitch.

Nicko kicks heavy ass on drums. Saw him live about a year ago and he and the rest of Maiden kicked the shit out of me with their killer metal. :banger:

i ve seen Maiden 5 times in live here in athens and i d say Nicko played excellent!

not a fingle mistake on the songs!!!!

i agree about Lars!he s a fucking stupid guy but he knows pretty well how to play the drums!

Oddly enough, the first drummer that knightley12 lists is not listed in any other post. I think John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham is the greatest drummer of all time. First and foremost. To me, this thread is aimed at finding the number two drummer of all time. Just my thoughts.

Yes! Thank you comanduc. Bonzo is the greatest drummer of all time. He may not be the most talented but he broke the mold for drummers just to be something to keep the beat. Plus Moby Dick is awesome.

John Bonham is a great drummer but highly overrated. There are many drummers who are better technically at drumming but you can't deny Bonham's influence on all of these drummers.

Yes, there are many drummers who are technically better than Bonzo...a lot more. But he was infact pretty good for never having taken a lesson in his life. But he has defiantly influenced a lot of drummers and like I said, he broke the mold for drummers to just be a back up instrument. He could take center stage and kick some ass.

dave grohl....hands down.....no ones beaten him to date.... i really dont get the obsession with the blink 182 guy tho.....ok i may not be the biggest blink fan in the world....but i'd say there music has more emphasis on guitars and crap vocals.....except when the deeper voiced guy sings, then drumming.....just my opinion...ive also always rated the guy from New Order (i forget his name)...and even tho the music isnt my cuppa tea phill collins is one hellova drummer


as for music of the now.....im quite into the Killers...and id have to say their drummer is pretty darn talented

yeah man, the killers fucking kickass. the drummer Ronnie Vannuci is sick as hell. i went to their show and in between songs he was playing some sweet ass stuff. they're awesome and hes awesome.
