'Five months' jail for hugging girlfriend excessive'

KUALA LAMPUR: A high court judge in Malaysia has ruled that sentencing a person to five months in jail for hugging his girlfriend was "excessive".

Justice Abdul Rahim Uda allowed a 29-year-old rubber tapper's appeal that his jail sentence be reduced and ordered him to be fined RM1,500 (approx. $ 450) instead.

"They were boyfriend and girlfriend. The five months jail sentence is excessive. Because of this, no one will dare to date our young women," he said in his order on Monday.

Mohamed Roslan Zainal had appealed after being convicted for outraging the modesty of his then 19-year-old girlfriend, it was reported.

I've been told by psychology teachers that hugging fulfills a human need for touching. Nothing indecent or lewd, just a basic human need to feel affection. If these savages don't have that physical need fulfilled, no wonder they strap bombs to themselves; they're collectively psychologically disturbed as a people. As I understand it "outraging the modesty" of a woman consists of a wide variety of non-consentual acts that fall short of actual rape.

Upon being embraced, the girlfriend in this case struggled then fled.
She then complained to her brother, who reported the incident.
But most significantly, the accused plead guilty. If the charge was as outrageous as everyone seems to think it was, why would he do that?
