The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Surprised so many hate facebook on this board.

I love it. I use it everyday. It's a good way to keep in touch with friends, especially the ones who live in different states.

I don't know one person who doesn't use it.

I know a ton of people who don't use Facebook. But, then again, I don't know that many 15 year old girls.

Well, it isn't quite the same thing. You are not going to e-mail your aunties and stuff, but plop a note in a conversation wishing your second cousin congrats on her third marriage/divorce/child and the clan knows you are alive and that even though you are not going to pop round any day now, you haven't disowned them yet - usefull currency when you need to borrow that pick-up to move a couch etc.

Sooooo, you would just put it on their Facebook page? How ridiculous is that? It's such a terrible way to cop out of an actual conversation with someone that you're supposedly friends with. I don't know about you, but I'm not so busy that I can't take 5 minutes to call my friends or type them a thought out e-mail; nobody is.

If, like me, you live thousands of miles/ multiple timezones from most of the family it is a good way of keeping up on what the bretheren look like these days. They all post pictures, it is like a disease.

Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet that most people don't use Facebook or MySpace for that reason. I'm willing to bet that most people have a Facebook or MySpace account just to see how many friend requests they can get. And, to me, that is just straight up gay.

Having said that I never say anything on facebook that I probably wouldn't say to a person sat next to me on a longhaul flight. If I have got something 'real' to say I send a private note or pick up the phone.

That's one of the things that is slowly fading in our society; people actually picking up the phone and calling someone. One of the things I hate about Facebook and MySpace is how people use it to communicate with eachother on a frequent, daily basis. And, even though it's a "Social Network", it's ironically making people in our society ANTI-social. People actually post shit like, "What are you doing tonight?" or "Where are you at?" FUCKING CALL THEM!!! They're your friends, you know? When I had a cell phone, people would text me with bullshit like that aaaaall the time and I would always ignore them when they did. Why? Because, if you REALLY want to hang out with me, then fucking call me and ask me to hang out. Don't be a high school girl and give me the run around. Call me and talk to me. If not, if you have an honest problem with acting like an adult and avoid calling me, then I must not really be your friend.

:dunno:

^^^^^^

It's ok Chef, we still use the phone/cellphone. Facebook is just another way to communicate or keep in touch with people. Why should I use my cellphone every 5 minutes when I could just post something for free. I'm a broke college student. I can't be calling people all over the country all the time.

Most of my friends and family live in Oklahoma and Colorado. With facebook, it's almost like I seeing them face to face. Is it wrong to post a picture of myself so my friends or family in Oklahoma can see me for a change? :dunno:

Stop making facebook out to be something that it's not.

Ah I remember the days before facebook when we actually picked up the phone and had a conversation with someone. I also hate texting, if you have something important to tell me call me, don't send me a text that's just lazy as shit. I also get pissed when I am out to eat and the cashier/hostess is texting away on her phone. I just want to slap it out of her hand and say "your at work, be a little professional."

someone should come out with "sit on my face-book.com" just, you know, for academic research or something. then again it'd probably just be dominated by male subscribers. hey that reminds me of another site i'm a member of......

woot post 27!

Ya bunch a Trekkies!

God love ya!

Facebook is what it is. People use it for different reasons, others judge it because they can do so. Live and let live.

People make it sound like if you use Facebook or text, you're automatically are too lazy to use a telephone. It's not one or the other. It is possible to use both. If you don't like Facebook, that's cool. But don't rip on everybody that uses it, calling them lazy and friend fiends. Not everybody who uses Facebook is a Tila Tequila type person, adding everybody and their Mother. I could name everybody on my friends list, where they went to school, how I know them and probably immediate family. Besides, Facebook is a good way to get to know someone before you're exchanging numbers and what not. I don't want some crazy woman with my phone number, and I'm sure women don't want stalker creeps with theirs.

I mean. BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA. I hate technology. Technology bad for society. Make lazy people. Nobody talk anymore. BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA.

No, not every single person uses it to be a "friend fiend", but I don't know a lot of people who use it for other reasons. It's geared towards teenagers and younger, still impressionable college kids. But, since our society does nothing but go along with the current trends and most popular fads, eeeeeverybody seems to be jumping on the bandwagon; adults included.

I was at a party the other week and a situation I was in gives me a good example of what I was talking about when I said that people rely on Facebook and MySpace to keep regular communication with eachother (which, in my opinion, is fucking sad)...

There was a woman there who was 38 years old and had a 20 year old daughter (who was also at the party). This woman, for some fucking reason, was reeeeeally into me and was flirting with me the whole night. Instead of talking to me, getting to know me, asking me questions (etc), she asked if had a FACEBOOK PAGE. A 38 year old woman wanted to exchange FACEBOOK pages, not phone numbers. That is fucking sad and that is exactly what I'm talking about. FYI - She gave me her number later on in the night...it's currently in the garbage can.

Does it make you a loser if you use Facebook or MySpace? No. But, it doesn't help your cause. Of all the people I know who use Facebook or MySpace, hardly any of them use it for reasons other than saying that they have a Facebook or MySpace page. It's like an icebreaker when they meet somebody new; a sad, saaaaad icebreaker. This technology is absolutely killing our ability to communicate with one another in an adult-like manner and it is making us lazy. Texting, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace...it's all making us ANTI-social. If someone wants to keep in touch with me, they can call me. If that's too much trouble for them, then I don't want them to call me their friend; because I'm obviously not.

As a college student, I often use facebook to help me out with school work. I might be sharing notes with a classmate, or getting a schedule to find out certain dates for different types of events.

You can also use myspace or facebook to promote parties or events. It's quite useful for upcoming artiest to put their music on the for promotional reason as well.

When I first came to South Florida, I had no clue where all the local "hot spots" were to hang out. Now, because of facebook, I can find those place by sharing info from friends and getting their personal input.

Oh, and.... what's worng with someone giving you their facebook page? Also, how facebook doesn't make you "ANI-social"? If anything, it makes you more social. That lady didn't seem so "ANI-social" to me.

Just because you have a facebook page that doesn't mean you have to give up your cellphone.

Facebook was started by a Jew - Zuckerman. That should tell you something about Konspiracy and the Illuminati. He made $250 million last year. Zynga likewise.

No don't groan I am kidding.

NeoKonspiracy?

KIDDINK!!!

Seriously. Zuckerman means sugar mountain. You know. Like Spielberg means play mountain. Well for me I am grateful for FB. It is free. How you use it is your problemo.

My brother and sister were sent back to the States when I was five. I never got their surnames from my mother. She refused to broach the subject, ever. I did not even know my sister's real name. Well, March this year, 2009, I received an email from a cousin in England asking whether their names meant anything to me. I recognised my brother's name. I am now reunited with them after all this time.

This Christmas when I thought of being alone again I had that dreadful feeling which I recognised as extreme loneliness. I also realised I did not have the strength anymore to rally against it. Then, my next thought was that I did not have to. Not anymore.

I also found out I have another sister I knew nothing of from my mother's earlier involvement, whom she had given up for adoption. (The war, you know. It does things to people).

As for Farmville, I am now rich. RICH!!! Take that, yer baastidds. :D

What does seriously piss me off though is how they managed to take us all the way back to the Dark Ages of computing, to a time when computers had just been invented.

I wonder had FB been run in Britain or Japan if it wouldn't run a whole lot better. I also think the endless battle they have with spam would have been less. Granted FV alone has 56 million users, but still. One waits endlessly for pages to load. It also loses info on the way. The amount of applications canvassing for one's personal info is off putting. It was in the news recently how Facebook addressed this issue. Everyone was sent a questionnaire onboard about their own privacy choices.

Every Time I Log On To FB, my FR******king 'phone rings. It has also started ringing early in the morning. I have not only been contacted by four different insurance companies, but they have sent me mail, too. Phoenix University has been constantly on my case. I started picking up the 'phone, listening to the woman on the other end, but remaining silent. They want to waste my time and energy, I waste theirs. It has come to the point where I now keep my 'phone unplugged. (Chef would NOT be happy about this).

This is just one example of the dangers this site presents:
