Favorite local eateries

I've recently been planning a trip to an undisclosed location, but while researching the aforementioned undisclosed location, I realized that it's really hard to find a really good place to eat in a foreign place unless a local can recommend one, so I had an idea for a thread. What are some eateries in your city (or another one that you're familiar with) that you would recommend to a visitor? If enough people post to this thread, maybe we can get some kind of database for people traveling to other parts of the world. As if...

In San Francisco there are 3 places I would definitely recommend: Tommy's, Dottie's, and Cancun.

Tommy's Joynt is a Hofbrau on the corner of Geary and [nobabe]Van Ness[/nobabe]. It has excellent food every day, daily specials, and a HUGE (100+) selection of beers from all over the world. It's not too expensive: $15 bucks gets you dinner and a *****.

Dottie's True Blue Cafe is a breakfast place on Jones between O'Farrell and Geary. Their omelettes, scrambles, toast, and baked goodies are top notch. It's fairly pricey for a breakfast joint, with the average cost of a plate running between $9 and $12 bucks.

Taqueria Cancun is a Mexican taqueria on the corner of 6th/Taylor and Market. Nobody in SF makes carne asada like Cancun. Their Burrito Mojado, nicknamed the "baby killer" due to the fact that it's so heavy that if it were dropped on a baby it would **** it, is a rite of passage for anyone working on the stage crew at the Warfield Theater across the street. It's moderately priced, with a burrito costing about $6.50.

Can you recommend anything?

Re: Favorite eateries

The Breakfast Creek Hotel/Restaurant in Brisbane. Best steak's in Oz. The beers's pretty good too.

Re: Favorite eateries

Not that anybody would come to Windsor, but here goes.

Smoke and Spice. A southern BBQ style restaurant. My favourite restaurant ever/anywhere. Everything is smoked and fucking delicious.

The Station. ****** owned burger joint. Incredible burgers and very inexpensive. Huge cheeseburger with fries and a ***** for $5.

TBQ's. I'm sure some people here have heard of this place. It's won awards for their ribs for years. Best ribs in North America awards. I personally like Smoke and Spice's better, but they didn't win multiple awards on a fluke.

That's the whole point of this thread, Diva! You never know who's gonna be in town, so you're kinda doing a random act of kindness. Now that that's out of the way you can get on with the rest of your day. ;)

Now, thanks to you, if my car ever breaks down in Windsor, or if I have to **** really badly while I'm driving through (those are the only 2 reasons I can think of that would justify stopping there) I'll know where to stop for lunch.

Re: Favorite eateries

Not really a big fan of restaurants so I just go to KFC to get my chicken fix when I'm hungry.

Re: Favorite eateries

Triple XXX in West Lafayette on campus at Purdue University. The oldest drive-in diner in Indiana (it's now a sit down restaurant though) and it's open 24 hours. I can't tell you how many times we closed down the campus bars and then took the two minute walk to Triple X for some great fucking food.

Drew Brees Special - Sirloin, two eggs (over easy), hash browns (with gravy), and two biscuits.

It's weird you started this thread of all people. The lady and I are planning a trip to San Fran in October to see the 9ers play amongst other things and I've been googling restaurants but the ones you've mentioned never came up. I guess that's how it goes.

At the hotel I work at, we have pamphlets we leave out with food and ***** recommendations, but none of them are nearly as good as the ones the staff suggests.

And as for reasons for being in Windsor, you're pretty dead on, BUT, we have guests at the hotel who come to Windsor from all over North America specifically to eat at TBQ's. It's been featured on Food Network Canada on a show called You Gotta Eat Here, which is basically the same as Guy Fieri's Diners show. Which reminds me...

Bubi's. Garlic heaven, right on the river. It's a burger joint and they have a huge selection of burgers. I eat here regularly, I don't know how I forgot, but it was also featured on Food Network Canada.

Isn't Triple XXX redundant?

Also, new members should be required to post recommendations in this thread before they do anything else. Great thread idea.

Re: Favorite eateries

There are a lot of places in Boston, however there is Buddah's Delight which is an all vegan asian eatery, they actually make a great teriyaki soy steak which is pretty damn good. Also there is a Cold Stone Creamery which is great munchies if one is stones like me, which is most of the time.

Re: Favorite eateries

If I may, I'm going to recommend some restaurants in other cities I've been to.

Chicago - Incredible deep dish pizza at Giordanos and Lou Malnati's. Forgive my spelling. Holy fuck it's good. Much better representation of deep dish than the stuff I get in Windsor/Detroit.

Toronto - Sadies Diner. My gf being a vegan drags me to lots of herbivore restaurants and this one is by far my favourite. I eat there everytime I'm in Toronto, whether she's with me or not.

Indianapolis - 96th Street Steakburgers. Pretty self explanatory. Good milkshakes too!

Re: Favorite eateries

Mac's Drive-In and Calhoun Corners in Clemson. Both were featured on ESPN a couple years ago during night games there.

I'm in windsor all the time. I'll be at the riverfront on Monday with the kiddies for the fireworks.

I don't know about The Station as I haven't eaten there but the other two are great choices.

I'll be there too!!! Along with 100,000 other people.

Re: Favorite eateries

Say hi if you see me just dont call me Alisa as I'll be with my kiddies lol

I was gonna say, I would say hi, but I thought ******** might be frightened by a huge bearded lumberjack looking man approaching their ******. I'll keep my eyes out though!

And as for The Station, I wouldn't really recommend it to tourists. It's in a bad neighborhood of the west end. It's like sending someone to 8 Mile in Detroit. But man they have good burgers.

Re: Favorite eateries

If coming to Houston, I highly recommend the Cadillac Bar in the Heights (NE of downtown), Tony's (one of the best restaurants in the USA according to a lot of critics) in Greenway Plaza, Cafe Annie in the Galleria or, for a real down-home authentic Texas treat, go to Mel's Country Kitchen in Tomball. Outstanding food, huge portions, Texas-style hospitality like you've never seen. Come hungry!

Re: Favorite eateries

In Denver (The Highlands [NOT Highlands Ranch, by the way...]) there's a great little Italian (Red sauce joint) restaurant called Patsy's. Plus they have a restaurant cat named **** who's the ****! She's my little friend! :):2 cents:
