Although I wouldn't say it's the best, I voted for the Evil Dead series because it's my favorite. I mean, seriously...ASH? Come ooooon, you can't fuck with that!!!

gotta say the Dead Series by George Romero for me....i've seen all of his dead movies and enjoyed them all.....I have seen 4 of the 5 Saw movies and liked those too
 
I have seen the vast majority of the films in these franchises, and suffice it to say that I enjoyed just about every one of them. I greatly enjoy horror movies above all other types, and I especially like when psychological aspects are included in the films. Because of this, I will have to say that I enjoy the "Saw" series the most of those included.

Most of the others are zombie and slasher flicks, and while still great, they are not my penultimate choices.

Call me cheesy, but one series that has always appealed to me for creativity was "Phantasm" which wasn't mentioned (probably rightfully so). :)

I go with Friday the 13th. The Exorcist is the best movie, but the franchise? Not so much.
 
I wish this was multiple choice because I can't pick just one. I like movies in a majority of these franchise and I own some of them, in fact I just picked up Child's Play in widescreen.:banger: However three of those franchises I own the entire collections and that would be Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th/Jason.
 
Evil Dead went from a scary flick to a joke by the time the third one came out. The first one still creeps me out.
 
has anybody watched all of the texas chainsaw movies?....I think the 2003 was pretty good...and the original was creepy....what about the others?....any good?....or as the sequels went on quality got worse....like jaws the original was great....the rest...welllllllll....not so great.....

I have watched most of them. This franchise's sequels hold up a lot better than those of Jaws, I think.

IMO, the second and third installments are almost as good as the first. Lots of creative gore, cannibal subplots, etc. Dennis Hopper is good in the second one. I would recommend definitely the unrated or directors cut of those two as you will miss out on the best gore scenes otherwise.

TCM 4 is another story. If you're a devotee of the series, you'll want to see it and will probably like it. But it just doesn't ring true like the first three.

I'm not too particular when it comes to horror movies, but I think I gotta go with Friday the 13th and its 27 installments.

TCM: The Beginning I have not seen yet, but heard it is good. IMO you've seen the best two already, but get a hold of 2 and 3 at least if you can.

Whoever told you that must really want you to suffer. That movie is TERRIBLE.
 
Im not really a fan of any horror series, the first movie is usually good/okay in some cases and then the following 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15..........movies are all terrible.

But with one exception IMO The Evil Dead series is very good, mainly because the second and third films didnt take themselves so seriously, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness were more comedy than horror. Even Evil Dead was was very comedic.

The Dead franchise was completely ruined by Land of the Dead. Turns out Romero wasn't the horror master afterall, just a dumbass.
 
I like most of the ones listed, but it's Friday the 13th by far. The first few still scare the crap out of my girlfriend who had never seen them before.
