May as well return it. He sure as hell wasn't going to be able to cash it. $50 for doing both a noble and an obvious thing is a decent reward I think.

Yep. He may not have "the riches today"; but he has earned an amount far more valuable than the riches of this world..."character".

That's only if "everybody" (and trust me, most folks do not) looked it through your selfish 'vision' of "doing it for the expected reward".... rather than "doing what's right".
In your opinion - that 50 quid is 'lousy' "pay".
And that's where it shall stay..... in your conceptions of what amounts to "rewards": "Lousy pay".

Exactly right.
He returned the check because he felt it was the right thing to do...and was given 50 for doing it.
He could have received a pat on the back or not heard anything at all.

I love the selfish outlook and the demand that doing a good deed should be paid in whatever the person feels THEY deserve for doing it.
