Fascism

I find it hilarious when uneducated people point to a symbol with a rich and lenghthy history and clain that it somehow undermines the American way of life.

Precisly when, may I ask, did the United States ever have a dictator unaccountable to the will of the people?

Quite a few Romans died by their fellow man trying to keep the Republic from turning into an authoritarian age of Emperors.

Seems like they failed pretty badly at it.

???? we can start with Obama and go back about 40 years, its very sad but elected US presidents in recent times have not served the will of the people but have served those who put them in power and backed them financially and when this happens you do not have a republic any longer

Ancient Rome, and we all know they were one of the most communist empires that ever existed

Interesting, as Communism had yet to exist then. Anyway, like Rey said, Rome was a republic, but with a constantly nagging autocracy via the emperors and their bloodlines. A lot of modern day symbols prevalent in government and even our own governmental structure are derivatives of the Roman blueprint. The presidential podium "fasces" that you described are merely an extension of that Roman culture. Their meaning really doesn't go beyond that...unless you want to bring the freemasonry conspiracy edge into it.

IMO there is about 10 cents worth of difference between Communism, Socialism, Totalitarianism, Fascism, those isms do not do anyone any good

larss

I'm watching some specialist videos
Wow. I did not realise that every time I looked at a bundle of sticks with an axe in it that I was watching fascism at work.

oh good grief!

Now we get to the root of the matter, you just want to rant about how bad all those isms are... :D

All of those isms have notable differences by the way...a damn sight more than 6 pence worth...

sorry thomas but I don't believe that Rome was truly a land of free people, my research tells me that Rome was not a Republic but a very totalitarian state in its own right, and it tried to spread its military across the known world for control and one of the many reasons why Rome fell was because it spread itself too thin kind of like another country is doing today so like I said the bottom line is the fasces today represents fascism which equals control of all by one

Then you'd better double check your research and look for reliable and quality reference books. There is even an Ancient Rome encyplopedia on the market. Maybe you should read that first before posting nonsens on a public forum. ;)

I make this suggestion, not out of sarcasm, but out of a desire to see you use accurate information and actual facts, as opposed to what I earlier referred to as "pop culture education".

This book is a cheap, easy read. It's a $6.95, 32 page paperback sold by Amazon. And it will help you. From your posts related to Rome in this thread, I promise you, it will help you.

The Best Book of Ancient Rome

Your "bottom line" statement is a complete non sequitur. It's just as illogical as suggesting that if Michelle Obama is seen wearing a purple coat (you understand the historical significance of that color, I'm sure) that means she is setting herself up to seize control of the Executive branch and the military, dissolve the Senate and make herself Empress.

Order the book and read it. Once you're done, donate it to a library or keep it for future reference. 32 pages. It'll take you no time at all.

Many moons ago, I took a university class in basic logic. I mainly took the class because the teacher was hella cute (and close to my age). I can't remember her name, but I do remember this one tidbit of basic logic that I got from taking that class. Try it on for size and see if it helps you. It's helped me many times over the years.

Yeah right those are the same people who is say they are against Communism think the Nazi's and Hitler is cool. Bunch of hypocrites.

So can someone explain to me why in the US Congress where the president gives his state of the union address we have the symbol for fasces or fascism on both sides of the podium?

It's not just the symbol of fascism. It was a symbol of legitimate authority while Rome was in it's Republic phase. The U.S. is a republic and Congress is supposed to be the closest we can get to legitimate authority to govern the country.

The flip side is that libs like to whitewash WWII because we were "killing fascists" while ignoring the evils of communism and decrying any other war we've fought. War is a terrible thing, but some wars are necessary.
