Man, I think everyone needs to switch to a tasty brand of decaf :hatsoff:
I disagree, Chef, about the networking thing. I've used it like a madman to network with actors/actresses/crew for the movie I've been working on (Myspace, that is). I would agree, though, that for the most part, it's laughable. I wouldn't break it down as a percentage, but I'd say there are a LOT of posers and wannabes on there. The fact is, if you're a "professional", then you're not just going to have a frickin Myspace account. You'll have your own damn website, and it will be professionally done.
But heck, I've tapped myspace a number of times for some talented folks.
Facebook... Hmmm... I've reconnected with a lot of people I haven't seen since high school- and now I know why I haven't seen them since high school. It's been nice to find some old friends I'd lost touch with, but for the most part, between their new layout and their annoying little "Send a person this" or "Invite someone to join that" things, it's hard to want to go there that often.
My success story on facebook- I used to live in KC when I was a little kid, and I had this great friend while I lived there for a year. Odd name, but he and I were great friends and after I moved away, I've always wondered what happened to him. That was 28 years ago. I found him on facebook, still living in KC, and we email all the time now.
