Earthquake Hits Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia Canada – November 17, 2009

“The last massive earthquake to hit the Queen Charlotte Islands was in August 1949, at a magnitude of 8.1. The shaking was so intense that cows tipped over in fields. In Terrace, cars bounced around and windows shattered.

The 1949 earthquake was “1,000 times stronger” than Tuesday’s quake, Mazzotti said.”

Scary stuff indeed.

this was weird. it was flashed on cable news for like a couple minutes and that was it. I would thought this woulda been pretty big news.

Crazy. I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about this yet.

that shit would scare the shit out of me. fortunately I'm in the Midwest and have never lived on the West coast. I would not like it. they get 'em on the East Coast too. I get to freeze my nuts off in the winter, but that sure beats driving over the Golden Gate bridge with a massive quake happening. shit you wanna talk about a nightmare

The reason this didn't make the news is because there are so little people living in the Queen Charlotte Islands. There are approximately five thousand people there, so anything less than a disasterous quake probably won't be making headlines.

wouldn't there be concerns about after shocks? :dunno:

Apparently Hawaii's citizens were notified by the government there was no threat of a Tsunami.

look up the New Madrid Fault, people living in the midwest need to know that they are on a major fault line and if it goes again, it will be major.

Charleston, SC, got rocked a little over 100 years ago. One of the biggest quakes in US history.

It's not panic time, obviously, but you need to be aware.

yeah I'm sort of aware. If my memory serves, didn't Montana have a MASSIVE quake many many years ago?

Montana supposedly has a massive magma bulge building under it (insert Vicky Vette joke here). We are due for something. New moons can bring them to Cali because of the astronomical tides. worth keeping an eye on in 26 days or so

I don't think so. Somewhere in B.C. I'm sure the government is worrying about aftershocks, but until they happen, they haven't happened, I suppose.

I live about 200 km away and it was felt here but I didn't notice anything, I was either asleep or driving at the time.

Also you need to be aware of the yellowstone Caldera out west also, enough force to basicly whipe the USA off the map and a good bit of Canada also.
