Rotterdam - A policeman has admitted ******* a neighbour's 12-year-old ******** girl and burying the body in the garden of his house, Dutch prosecutors said Wednesday.
The 26-year-old man turned himself in on Tuesday evening, a week after the disappearance of Milly Boel in the southern city of Dordrecht.
In a case which has shocked the Netherlands, prosecutors could not say whether the girl had been sexually assaulted.
Neighbours interviewed on television expressed shock that after a week-long nationwide search, the young girl had been found just a few metres from her home.
Police were criticized for waiting 17 hours after the girl disappeared before raising the alarm and not concentrating enough on a search of the neighbourhood.
The mayor or Dordrecht said there were indications right from the start that the girl might have been ******** by someone from nearby.
