Well, it wasn't a total TPK...but I did manage to get 4 out of 5 of them.

Sad thing was, nobody checked for traps even though the first half of the Setite lair was.........trapped. Of course things will become more lethal the closer to their target they get.

I beg to differ, I was constantly checking for traps and making sure that other people were walking in to **** before me!

Which is probably part of the reason I was the only survivor. Also, I may have eaten two people in our group...

Many RPG players know the benefits of having a wand or something similar that has cure spells on it. Fewer seem to know the benefits of a magical device that can summon a lot of weak creatures for you. Even if they are weak the make good disposable trap springing fodder.

...Of course I'm sure somebody like Anders would have more fun using other party members for that purpose.

If I´m playing a game where I´m supposed to be an asshole I´m damn well going to be the greatest asshole that ever (un)lived!

Oddly enough, there aren't any wands or magical items in Vampire that can magically heal damage. Vampires are tough SOBs to ****. Bashing and lethal damage they can just soak and heal with *****. If they have a constant supply of ***** available, they can take that damage all day long.

Aggravated damage? Bad juju and best to avoid any situation that deals it completely since it's a long and grueling process to heal agg damage. Of course, my players did learn a very valuable lesson that all vampire players eventually come to learn. Even if it's not a clan discipline, Fortitude is pretty fucking handy to invest your xp in since it's the ONLY thing you can use to soak agg damage.

Bad juju and aggravated damage? Is that like tying a vampire to a chair with his eyelids taped open and making him watch a marathon of Twilight stuff? I don't think any amount of Fortitude is going to overcome that. :1orglaugh

That's not agg damage, but that is an extremely good way to get any vamp to frenzy on your ass!

Funny enough, in a game I used to play in, my PC was an elder vampire (that's usually any vamp over 100years old) who only just woke up from a very long ***. There was another recently awakened elder who took her to see the movies and funny enough, it was Twilight. While the two vamps watched in horror as the Twilight vamps sparkled, they overheard 2 werewolves in an arguement about the werewolves in the movie.

Later, Kali ran into those werewolves while off on her own and saved her happy ass by getting them into a discussion about Twilight and got their werewolf arguement started again.

A hundred years seems like a short cut off time to be considered an elder vampire all things considered with things that don't die of age. Then again maybe they have a high mortality rate by what I have heard you tell me so far. (Also, does that go by how long one has been a vampire or just how old somebody is? What happens if a 99 year old gets turned into a vampire; is he considered a elder within a year and can gloat over all the younger ones still waiting.) :1orglaugh

So I'm thinking about painting some of the minis I am going to get from the Reaper kickstarter. I have some artistic talent, but I have never painted them before. Does anybody have any advice? What do you do to paint them such as the steps and materials used? Also, what do you use for a base to set them on if you use them?

100 years as a vampire. Getting to 100 years is an accomplishment since the live of a kindred is pretty deadly. Kindred are very political creatures and play deadly political games (guess with eternity, it amuses them). If you have any political aspirations (or even if you can be perceived as helping a rival) you've got huge target on your back. Then there's hunters, werewolves, wraiths, mummies, and other supernatural creatures. They're nasty because wounds given by them don't heal as fast.

As for the painting, if you google you'll find tons of tutorials and advice. With metal minis you have a lot of options on paints. You can in theory save money and get craft acrylics, do it in watercolors after you do a base paint, washes, etc. I do know with plastic (after screwing up a few minis), that you should just bite it and invest in the citadel paints. So since have a bunch of those, that's probably what I'll start the reapers on.

Also........I'm now the proud owner of the $100 backing of the lowlife minis. Sigh.

That also makes me wonder how other vampires would know how old a certain vampire is. I guess some of them would be easier because of their notoriety, and some of them have obviously been around a long time, but does that mean there are vampire birth certificates out there for the rest? I'm sure there are some out there that must be loners and be clouded in mystery considering others want to **** them all the time.

I don't think I will get any metal miniatures. I just wonder if you need to primer the plastic ones. Do you do any ink washes on them or dipping or do you just strait up paint them how you want for the right shading?

There's a vampire discipline called Auspex that actually gives you quite a bit of information on people. Then one of the clans have a type of ***** magic that if they can taste someone's ***** (and depending on your successes) you can find out their approximate age. This is why NOBODY ever lets their ***** get close to a Tremere...normally if you ***** another vampire's ***** you start to become bloodbound to them. However, this Tremere power keeps them safe.

And of course you do have a few babies who try to pretend they're much older and powerful than they really are. Some are able to maintain the bluff, others are called on it and end up dying.

And yes, I have to primer the plastic minis. What I found works the best is spray painting them (especially since I can get quite a few at once). White spray paint is best but if you're going to try to do funky effects, sometimes you can get some pretty cool stuff to come out of black spray paint. And I have played around with some ink washes for a few of them. If I have time this weekend (and there's enough light) I'll take some pictures of what I've done so far.

Army Painter actually has a cool idea. They have a shader which comes in a can. You give the mini a base coat then dip it in the shader. This was meant as a solution for people who war game and need to get a regiment painted quickly. I was going to do this for all the regular Descent mobs then paint the BBGs with more detail, but I started painting them all this way. Loads more work, but I don't mind.

anyone know how I can sharpen my vorpal blad and swords of sharpness? After years of orc slaying I'm sure they can use some turning up.

Has anybody seen this Obsidian game kickstarter yet? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity

It looks promising and almost reached it's goal in one day.

I will not back anymore kickstarters this year...I will not... LOL

I saw another one yesterday where the company is making a full 2 story map of a mall. They're flushing it out with details so it's perfect for that zombie apocalypse game you've been wanting to run. And why is it zombie games, books and movies take place at the mall?

On another note, yesterday was the September meetup. It was odd, my Paranoia game was booked up + reserved and I ended up with 3 players to start and 1 who was about 20 minutes late. Very odd. However, my antics once again made it the loudest table. Not only did the eyeball make an appearance (walking through Amsterdam with an eyeball on a stick makes for great stares) but the players got childrens party hats with their MBD (mandatory bonus duty) taped on. This is stuff such as team leader or recording and communications officer.

The happiness officer became lax and took his hat off at some point and the team leader switched roles with the happiness officer (he had a secret mission where he was to become happiness officer at all costs). The old happiness officer didn't notice and pointed at the old team leader during an interaction with the NPC and said, "I don't know, ask the team leader." The NPC looked at him and said, "according to your hat, you're the team leader."

Many laughs were had, and many non-commies died. Oh, and the trouble shooters were very unsuccessful with their mission and the computer assigned them to final termination since it determined these clones were pathetically useless. :cthulhu:

Even with 4 people, all is well in Alpha Complex.

hehe! ive been seeing paranoia pop up everywhere now that im looking around for good d&d puzzles. it seems everyones got something for paranoia! also..that eyeball on a stick is famous these days, isnt it?

funny enough, i had my monthly meetup saturday. i did a "create your own board game night" and it was a good turn out. a couple people practically begged me to run a d&d game next time. funny enough, i think im ready to do that.

since i had miserable attempt at dm a few months ago with the 3 head choppers plus my regular group, and now that ive successfully put together a decent campaign with our new guy, i think im on a roll. feeling more experienced. level up for me.

i lived through a tough one, doing good with a new one, and im feeling better with the new people in the meetup group. i guess that was the whole point.
