dungeons and dragons (D&D) anyone?

Its not so much the rules of the game for Shadowrun that I find confusing. Its quite straightforward and mostly uses a general common sense. But there is soo much "flavour" so many backgrounds, keywords, geography, paths to visit, that you can lose control of the reigns and the rules will suffer (and so the players will too) if you don't somehow

1/ Simplify the adventure (either giving out pre made characters and setting direct maps, and objectives, like a D&D pre-made adventure)
2/ Remove the rules and read the novels and just do free-form pure roleplay, giving you more time to explore the rich background and not get stuck on rules.
3/Learn everysingle rule and every single item and background :O noooooooo! I seriously couldnt do this. And improvise the adventures!

I liked 2nd edition. 4th edition has more information that is more related to current technology (but the differences are marginal between the editions, and any edition should be enjoyable and the last)

They all use dice pools, D6s, and have the same Cybered Samurai, Street Mage, Decker, Rigger, Orcs, Elves, Trolls. They are all set on Earth in the future around 2075AD after megacorps have taken over power from countries, and the matrix works the same, you have avatars and VR mode in the matrix can get burnt by Black Ice and die from dumpshock. They all have simsenses, the **** choice of the new meta gen. They have corps protecting their backs with AKs and Ares Predators from Mr.Johnsons trying to set up runs against their integrity. Its fun, but can get m3SSy!

SORRY MY INTERNET IS BEING LAGGY BECAUSE I AM DL A VID FROM NAUHTY AMERICA :(

I don't think it as much confusing as some of the power of people can be unbalanced and there can be a big discrepancy if the game master doesn't have a good handle on the rules and the mechanics of the system. From what I hear it's worse with the new stuff. It's not as bad as a system like Rifts, but I've heard some of the newer Shadowrun stuff has it's moments with unbalanced characters and rules, even more than most other systems.

Well I would love to play a game of shadowrun. Perhaps single adventures are easier to handle than large campaigns. So I think I would like to just have some single adventure experience for 4th. Although I might be running a game in the begining of 2012 and not sure if I am up to it yet.

Here are some pics. The first is our D&D game just the other night, no I wasnt on Freeones at the time, we went old school and just used pen and paper character sheets.

The second image is a miniature I am preparing for painting, I'll be making a hexblade for D&D new encounter season. So far so good, touch wood.

For the mini, I basically had to cut of the metal base, and cut off the rough edges, then cut some holes into my base and slot her into the "crystal 25mm base"

Unfortunately yes Anders.

I have now undercoated the model I am doing, just took the time for the epoxy to arrive in the post. Although today, I noticed in poundland, its the same stuff they sell. So I ****** my time there on getting it thru ebay.

I remember back in the day doing some Battletech miniatures. I liked some of them better than the fantasy RPG ones because a lot of people put insane details into them with the perfect pain jobs for the regiments colors and the small unit numbers and insignias some people put on them.

Petra

ive never seen it. and im curious about it.. but i have no idea where to start. theres a fucking million dr who shows.

I'm hoping to try a game of it in January, if anyone is even running it. I hear that mostly you run around following the Doctor though.
