Don't Drink And Drive

Woman charged with driving Zamboni drunk

Sat. Nov 1 - 4:46 AM

KINGSVILLE, Ont. (CP) — A 34-year-old woman from Kingsville, Ont., has been charged with impaired driving — on a Zamboni.

Provincial police say an off-duty officer spotted the woman driving erratically on the ice resurfacer at Kingsville Arena on Thursday night.

The driver was missing major spots on the ice and bumping into the boards.

At one point, police allege the woman stopped the Zamboni and slumped over the steering wheel.

Police say they found a bottle of vodka on the woman, whose name was not released.

She was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving over the legal alcohol limit.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 2 in Windsor, Ont.

so a zamboni is considered a motor vehicle?

I think the police and the prosecuter are going a bit too far on this one.
being fired is all thats necessary here.

I'm inclined to agree with you only because of possible equipment damage.. and dammit, dont drink on the job unless you can get away with it. SHEESH!

I can see possibly charging somebody with public intoxication in a situation like that, but charging somebody with drunken driving when they are not on the road just because they are on a vehicle seems like it's stretching the law too far.

You can get a DUI for just sitting in the driver's seat of your car while it's parked. Where's the driving part of a DUI (DRIVING Under the Influence) in that scenario? :dunno:

At least this lady was driving something when she got her DUI. I think it was somewhat appropriate to charge her because, at the very least, she could've cause some property damage and/or have hurt herself.

FYI - You can also get a DUI for RIDING A BIKE while you're drunk. HA!!!
