Does The Word "Racist" Have Any Real Meaning Nowadays?

I love it when someone calls me a "Honky," "Cracker," or anything else and then calling them racists.

It's hilarious to me when that happens because most of my ancestors either lived in northern states; one great-great-grandfather operated a station on the underground railroad; several ancestors arrived in NYC and Boston as indentured servants (Does that qualify me for reparations?); and nobody in my family going back three hundred years was involved with slavery in any way. Most of them settled in Iowa and Nebraska and some of them were pressed into Union service during the war and were rewarded with citizenship afterwards. So when someone calls me a "Cracker," I can legit tell them they're full of shit.

When people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Hillary Clinton affected Black accents when speaking to Black people, I think they both showed their own race hangups. .

Jajajajaja. Wow where do I even begin with this

Ok I have something to say about this. While you might see it as AOC "affected" a black accent, I see it as that being her normal way of talking. I see it as the real AOC. I can relate to AOC. We both come from similar backgrounds. She's from the Bronx. I'm from the south side of Chicago. We refer to it as the "hood" and I grew up with mostly blacks and latinos just as AOC did. I'm a white collar worker and when I'm at work I speak in a completely different way than I would when I'm back in my neighborhood. At work I speak proper English. I speak in a very professional tone. I use words that I would never outside of that setting. But my vocabulary changes completely once I go back home to the old neighborhood or if I'm with friends/family. This is when my real voice appears. My accent changes. My vocabulary changes. I use more slang. I drop in more Spanish in what's called Spanglish. I guarantee you this is the same thing for AOC. I don't pretend to know much about you but I can tell that we both just have totally different life experiences

If you are a white collar as you say, you generally don't vote democrat . AOC speaks like a 15 year old dumb clueless retard and she worked as fucking bartender and toilet scrubber who knows jackshit to the economy. In some workplaces, people won't hire people from bad neighborhoods because they give a bad image to their firm and because their political values are in complete opposite with their interests and their values. The main language in the US is American English, and it never was Spanish that is all I know.

To Dino: What would qualify as a, "racist" act?

To address the institutional stupidity that is George- "At the very beginning , America was a conservative country": that is just wrong and suffers from a complete lack of understanding, education, or perspective.

Was America founded on socialist values? I don't think so. Before calling me stupid, remind me please on which political were the ones who resist to the Brits during 1776 . They weren't from the left. So typical from you to resort to namecalling when one doesn't agree with your liberal views. Don't tell me even about education and perspective because from the democraps and more especially from the Clinton and Obama , there is nothing but just utter crap coming like Obamacare, open borders and many other crap things. We have seen what 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Obama have given, nothing but hype and bullshit.

Democracy and Freedom were and are Liberal concepts. Your desire to mold everything to your world view just illustrates your lack of education, understanding, or perspective.

Being that this is a board with all manner of ages, races, creeds, religions, countries of origin, genders and sexual preferences, it's likely that most of the people on here have had different life experiences than the other people. To me, that just means that each of us may have a different perspective on things - and that's fine. But I understand the point that you're trying to make. And yes, I (and probably most people who grew up with distinct accents) may speak one way around family and friends and another way in more formal settings. That's not at all unusual or unique. When I used to drink and party in college, people (the ones still sober enough to hear me) were freaked out by how I sounded when I was loosey-goosey. But while Cortez may speak less formally around her family and friends, I still say that she laid it on a little thick for "the Black folk" in that particular room. Pandering, to say the least. Some (Black and White) felt that it was patronizing and disrespectful. But whatever works. As long as politicians don't go too far or seem too obvious, it does work. Studies have shown that people, in general, do feel more comfortable and at ease around people who seem most like them. But it does beg the question: if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was speaking to a room full of Black business executives, how would she sound then? Hmm? ;) I'm thinking that she might "back up off it" just a tad.

I also brought up Hillary's verbal "racial indiscretions" - she's got a loooong history of those, doncha know?! :D Now, while one could debate Cortez's affected accent, Hillary ain't gots no legs to stand on... lawdsy mucy, I do deeclar. Hot sauce is what she carries in her purse? Really? Seriously? I'm surprised that she didn't wear an afro wig and a "Free Huey" t-shirt to this interview. Combine this sad performance with all of the many other times that she affected (bad) accents and I'm surprised that she hasn't gone into voice-over work for TV commercials or cartoons.

At times, I thought that Hillary must have watched Steve Martin's performance in The Jerk one too many times.

You got any other examples of Hillary affecting an accent? Because that one is fucking weak. Hot Sauce isn't a black thing, at least not where I'm from, and how long did Hillary Clinton live in Arkansas? Those Razorbacks might not take as much heat as we do in Texas, but I know for a fucking fact that hot sauce ain't just a black thing in Arkansas, either. My wife lived in Tennessee for twenty years and claimed Hot Links are a, "black person food", oh, really, motherfucker? Not in East fucking Texas. I think you're reaching and your biases are showing. :2 cents:

She's (in)famous for her fake accents. Here's one of her top hits:

Yeah I imagine she would "back up off it" just a tad if she were speaking to a room of black business executives because that would still be a professional setting. The affected accent you were referring to was from a speech AOC gave at the National Action Network where the audience was predominantly made up of black activists.

You're a smart guy, but I don't think you understood the context. It's not unusual to give an animated reading when you're quoting... C'mon Rey, you're better than this.

I understand the context and the source very well. So if a person used quotes from The Diary of Anne Frank, it would be acceptable for a non-Jew to affect a heavy Jewish accent? :dunno: Yeeeeeah... I'm thinking that wouldn't have a happy ending.

Hillary's affected accents aren't exactly breaking news, X. Even the left-leaning folks at Bloomberg did a piece on that patronizing tendency of hers.

Wow. Where do you want me to mail your MAGA hat?

When the President of the United States tweets that US Senators who happen to be non-white should "go back to the crime infested places where they came from", yes, that word still has a meaning today.

Didn't vote for him (or her) and don't follow his (or her) lead. No offense intended, but your comment is a reflection of where our society is now: if you ain't with us, then you're with them.

I'm not "with" either one of them, but I do want the best for our republic - exclusive of the cults of personality that drive people to worship these two corrupt parties (or exclusively see fault with those who don't believe as they do). So while I would like to see America be made great, I just don't agree with Trump's messaging or some of his policies. I think that he often plays the other side of the race, religion and gender cards that she (and her hubby) play - though she's less vulgar/obvious in her delivery.

IMO, the fact that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were the two main candidates for POTUS says what a sad state of affairs we're currently in. Hillary is what she is. I can't help that. And Bloomberg News has indeed made a turn to the left since Mikey began to exert more influence over the network that bears his name - that's also the view of one of his more neutral, independent thinking reporters that I used to converse with. I can't help that either. I'm not necessarily talking about what comes across the Bloomberg terminals, since most people don't even know what those are or have access to them. But anyway, it's not like Bloomberg is the only outlet that's ever done a story on Hillary's odd and changing accents, depending on who/what she's standing in front of. Is Hillary a racist? I don't know. I can't see what's in her heart. But I do think she's prone to use race, gender and other "identity politics" techniques to further herself.

To refer back to the OP, yeah, I definitely think that many of these words (racism, sexism, etc.) have lost meaning because so many tender-ass types overuse them when they get challenged or they want some attention and sympathy..
