Well do you?

Is it possible to respect something in general? I think that respect is a personal emotion. There are men and women who do not deserve a bit of respect.

I'd say that I can either respect or disrespect any human being, no matter what gender. Qualities of the character are much more important than gender.

I respect everyone.

I have a few thoughts on this in general too. Many people say you have to earn respect. I feel that everyone should be given and shown respect. At least until such a time they do something that warrants the respect they were given to be being taken away. IMO at least.

I am one of those 'many' :wave2:
By default I prefer neutral attitude towards unknown people. And from that neutral level it could rise or go down to whatever.

I agree with you LadyLove everyone deserves respect.

Except those people who would hurt someone physical or mental, I have no respect for them

Yes I try to respect everyone. It is something we as people should strive for as I really do beleive that any time you don't have equality of respect for anyone that you are inviting a less just society.People/society cannot pick and choose who gets repect or not and think that will not translate into into a general lack of respect for everyone. As the saying goes "what goes around, comes around".You dis certain groups ,don't be surprised that someday you are in a group getting disrespected. Then you will think it is wrong and unfair but will be seen as hypocritical and your concerns will probably be dismissed.
And let me just add I think this current election cycle is demonstrating a lack of respect for women. No one is attacked in the way Hillary Clinton is, and much of that I attribute to a lack of respect for women.:2 cents:

My answer is the same as JohnN88's

I'm sure to some degree you're right, but I think she's got character issues that supercede any gender bias.

I treat everybody as an individual. In that regard men and women have an equal change of gaining my respect through their actions and the content of their character. I'm one of those people that thinks respect does indeed need to be earned. To me it's more accurate so say I treat everybody with dignity and consideration until they do something to show they no longer deserve it. To have my respect somebody goes a step further than that. They have to go above and beyond. I hold myself to the same standard when it comes to them in turn. Respect, to me, means you put the person in high esteem because of what they do, not who they are, and it takes more than existing to do that.

Trick question. Where's the sometimes option?

Depends if they have earned it.

Why would I respect someone if they don't respect themselves?
Like women who date bad boys or consider hook ups as a good thing then wonder why they are pregnant or have a disease. Same thing for guys but they wouldn't be pregnant.
