It's probably a factor, but ultimately I think the genetics of when a person starts to experience the natural urges and their own predisposition to act on them and biggest contributors. Knowing exactly what's happening probably helps, whether that's from porn, sex ed, or being told by your parents that those bits aren't just for pissing out of. I was 11 when I first started masturbating to orgasm, and I had never seen porn or graphic nudity stronger than topless, so it wasn't a factor for me, and I'd guess that puts me towards the younger end of the spectrum for self-discovery.
