What exactly is better about having all the redundant bullshit from the politics section mixed in with the talk section? You could make a case for the sports threads, but people barely post in there anyways.

I've been a member probably longer than most. But, the board hasn't changed much...the people have but that's to be expected in any thing like this on the net.
The douche' factor has increased somewhat as some just want to be assholes but there are always the good people around.

You don't normally see moderators asking what can be done about trolls because they are moderators and thus generally have the ability to moderate said trolls. Which, you know, is generally what can be done about them.

It's more a question of exactly how tied a moderator's hands are on this site that they would look at trolling as inevitable and trolls as an unsolvable problem.

Trolling isn't against board rules, unfortunately. Same with being an asshole. So someone like Sam Fisher is going to exist. When people break rules, they are usually taken care of pretty swiftly.

This is why I still come around. Because the mods ARE just regular members now, and don't get all butthurt if their asses aren't held in the highest esteem, and because members can bust their chops a little without them abusing the power and dropping the ban hammer. I actually like it better now. I like not having to walk on eggshells. I realize that this, is only the internet...it isn't that serious, it's not the end of all time, if someone calls you a douche bag, and it's not equivalent of assault if you call someone else a douche bag.

It's subjective I guess. I personally think assari is hilarious. But if 90% of the board had their way, he'd be banned. Unless the trolling is violent, racist, etc...what is the harm? Is Sam Fisher a troll? Sure fucking is, but all he's doing is just pushing his agenda onto the rest of us and ignoring facts. Easy to ignore.

When I said I could do without the trolls, I meant me personally. There's people I just don't like. But I don't think there is anybody here that is ruining the board by any means.

The general frame of thinking is usually that trolling "poisons the environment" and drives users off. Much the same way a forum being too strict tends to do the same. Making moderation on most boards kind of an art, as opposed to a science.

I'm a little shocked the forum condones trolling, and for a couple of reason. First, it's exceedingly rare to find any forum that does that, especially one that is trying to move a product. Second, for a forum where trolling is allowed... there's an almost shockingly small number of trolls. I wonder what the reason behind that is...

There are plenty of people who aren't going to proactively click on Politics and/or Sports, but would click on and subsequently respond to a thread that interests them that is now sequestered in these sub-forums. As a result, everyone loses out. While I am a constant in the Politics section, I rarely go into Sports. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in vrious topics, I just don't go looking for them.

This is why I still come around.
