If it's possible we want to get married january 24th wich is the day on wich we had our first date. That's a sunday so we have to find out if we can get married on a sunday @ city hall. If not we'll have to pick another date.

Yes, we can :yesyes: Altho strictly speaking the Netherlands doesn't know gay marriage. The existing marriage was opened up to same sex couples in 2001 wich I think is even better because now we have one form of marriage for everyone. There's no special label placed on gay or heterosexual couples, if you want to get married, go ahead. The Dutch government realized we don't want special treatment, we just want the same treatment. That's why they opened up marriage to same sex couples instead of creating a separate gay marriage.

Same sex couples have been able to get married in the Netherlands for almost 9 years now. It's time the US opens up marriage to same sex couples as well on a federal level. Dutch society hasn't fallen into decadence, the economy wasn't ruined because of it, heterosexual marriages haven't lost their value because of it. It's time the US does the same thing.

You need to call around to different stadhuizen to see which ones have the ceremony on Sunday. Don't quote me on this...but I think I saw Sundays on the Alkmaar stadhuis site. Also, something to keep in mind...most of us have booked the stadhuis a year in advance so you may not get your first choice this short of notice.

So last night we had a big Christmas dinner with both our families. My parents had arranged the whole thing and we all came together in a nearby bowling/party center. We were worried there might be some friction between some our family members because it's bound to happen not everyone is gonna like each other but luckly everone got along suprisingly well. There was a small stage in the room where we were and @ one point my girlfriend got on stage, took the microphone and asked me to join her. So i go over to her and she asks me to marry her in front of our families. I never saw it coming and it blew me away for a few second but I said yes. I'm getting married, whoohoo! :lovecoupl

I don't know if it was the date we picked for next year or the particular stadhuis but we got someone to pick up at 8:07am on September 10th (for those who aren't in the NL, most cityhalls won't let you book a wedding more than a year in advance). 3 of the 4 time slots for the day were already booked and they had been open for only 7 minutes! :eek:

At least my fiance doesn't argue with me anymore when I say we need to book something NOW. :1orglaugh
