Derren Brown to predict lottery numbers

This could be interesting:

Brown has just announced that this coming Wednesday (09/09/09) he will predict the winning lottery numbers live on Channel 4, minutes before the National Lottery is shown live on the BBC1.

Lottery organisers Camelot are happy about the stunt, claiming it's merely an illusion. "It is impossible to affect the outcome of the draw and Derren Brown is not suggesting he is doing this," they said. "He is an illusionist creating an illusion that he can predict the numbers."

Nevertheless, Channel 4 has banned Brown from buying a ticket himself. The pot currently stands at a less-than-illusory £2.4 million. Two days later, in a follow-up programme, Brown will then reveal to the nation exactly how his prediction works.

If he gets every single number right then its a hoax. If he gets a few then its semi-belivable but more than likely still a hoax. If he gets none of them right then its believable.

Since Derren Brown is a skeptic who not only admits that what he does is trickery but also campaigns against charlatans who claim to have supernatural powers, no-one should feel hoaxed by it.

There's probably some sort of subliminal messaging going on in all these weird adverts in the run up to the show.

I remember watching the Russian Roulette stunt many yrs ago. Wow.

Obviously a trick, like DreamSparrow said he's never claimed to have any supernatural powers. We'll find out on Friday how he did it.

I personally love Derren Brown, great entertainer, and no one can deny he is an extremely clever individual.

Agreed. Very tuned in person, not a 'showman', has a great intellect, and a nice person too:)

I lol at all the people in the media and around the place screaming: 'OH MA GAWD FAKE !!! HOAX!!!'

was rather cool, and will be interesting to see how he did it

Anyone read his book, Tricks of the Mind?

Respectfully, Busenbust, he is completely a showman. I don't mean that critically - though I'm not his hugest fan, I do love a good show, and the world needs shameless entertainers. But, well, if he's not a showman, what is he? I think great intellect may be stretching it somewhat...

'Showman' (as in my original post);); true, perhaps not great intellect, but very well read. (And it's difficult not to make comparisons with his counterparts - are there any??LOL). Respectfully.

Firstly, the actual video.

People are coming up with all sorts of reasons how he could have done it! Some popular theories:

- Split screen camera manipulation.

- Split screen manipulation, AND you can see the leftmost ball seemingly wiggle of its own accord when the moving camera 'freezes' for a few seconds after the lottery is drawn. Not everyone is convinced by this.

- There is an assistant hiding behind a mirror in the region between the television and the left hand side of the screen. Look for the blurry square on the wall. Derren hides his reflection by walking rapidly across that space and then brushing the join away once he turns the stand to reveal the balls.

- The balls are inserted through the stem of the stand. A mirror inside the tubing disguises it.

- Lasers are projecting the numbers on to the balls.

- Mass hypnosis, using subliminal messages.

- The balls contain displays using electronic paper labels.

- Sleight of hand, replacing the balls when he walks over to them.

- Fractal arrangement of mirrors to create a holographic or retroflective image, based on his new video enigmatically holding up a snowflake.

- And of course, the possibility that Derren Brown is not human. ;)

Goodness. I had no idea. I though Brown always advocated 'no trickery'; that's one of the reasons I always liked him. If true, then he's no better than any other 'trickster'. Shame. Oh well.

You got him all wrong then. He has ALWAYS admitted that everything he does has a trick behind it. What makes him better than the other tricksters is they tell the audience they are actually using magic or superhuman powers.

As for figuring out how he did it, whats the point? Can people not wait two days to find out from the guy himself?
