The Disney star has checked out of her concert tour and checked into a in-patient treatment center for help with "emotional and physical issues," according to a statement released by her publicist Monday.
But the publicist was wary of describing the treatment as "rehab." As the statement makes clear, "Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help. She is doing just that."
The 18-year-old was three months into a world tour with the Jonas Brothers -- she used to date Joe Jonas though that is in no way the reason for her being the opening act -- and fans in Chile, Brazil and Argentina will now miss out on Lovato over the next few weeks, presumably having to console themselves with repeated viewing of seminal works such as Camp Rock and Sonny With a Chance.
NewsFeed, of course, wishes Demi well and is certain that her ultimate aim -- she told Reuters in 2009 that she wants to be on stage with just a rug and a microphone "and still be able to sell out places like Madison Square Garden, like Bruce Springsteen does" -- is no more than, say, 12 steps away.
