And yet all the blustering conservatives here don't bother to ask the question about why minority applicants can't achieve passing scores? I know it's easy thinking for Conservatives to not actually think there could be a reason other than "welfare and drug abuse" but maybe there actually is a clear answer.
Maybe, just maybe, minority students don't go to equally funded public schools as, say, schools that serve white suburbs?
If minority students went to well-funded suburban public schools would their achievement scores be better? They probably wouldn't have a lot of difficulties finding textbooks, huh?
If white posters went to unfunded, inner-city schools what kind of achievement scores would they get?
If people want to cry and moan about America falling behind the world, maybe it's the rest of the world that has realized that Education actually matters and they fund things and view things differently than we do today (and have done since 1980, really).
Throwing more money by raising property taxes toward Education is not the solution but treating teacher's like stupid morons probably isn't the solution either?
Total overhaul of the public education system is the way forward. And cutting down the DoD budget by 30% can fund this transformation. REDIRECT our money to where it will do more good in the long-term for more Americans equally....there's the solution.

DC schools spend more per capita than any public school district in the nation, and come in 51st in achievement. Typical thinking that money equals results. It's faulty.
And FYI, Dayton already spent over $600k to examine the old test and ensure that it was assessing people fairly and accurately.
I went to a large, inner-city school that was half minority, and I know several of the kids that are policeman right now (an Asian, a girl, and two other white dudes). You want me to break it down for you even more...that school had a shooting outside a basketball game one night just a few block from my house only a few years ago. Sooo, I call bullshit on that argument all day. It wasn't Disneyland, but if your parents raised you right, you without question could succeed.
Check out the statement from the local NAACP (starts at about 1:00 into the story). Sounds like good judgement and common sense by this guy.
The next day, the national NAACP forced Mr. Forward to change his opinion.

Now wonder the men and women who try to keep us safe are burning away like dry wood.
Of course, they should go for better qualified and better motivated policemen, but our political systems are headed the other direction.

Of course, they should go for better qualified and better motivated policemen, but our political systems are headed the other direction.
This is the kind of thing anecdotal evidence doesn't really work to well in. You also can't pick a few people that make it and reasonably apply that situation to everybody else in almost all cases. The fact is there are a very great multitude of reasons why kids don't do well in school and funding and quality of education is one of many. Socioeconomic circumstances outside of school also have just as great of impact. A lot of the reasons people don't succeed are do to that, but nobody really wants to try and fix those situations either so children have it better and have a better chance to learn. That's just as bad as under funded schools and other similar things. You can't take people that have to live crappy lives in crappy communities that grew up with people just like them and just hope they magically turn it around somehow with no help and no hope for doing so.
With that said I don't think we should lower standards just because a certain group of people don't do well on them. However, we should find a serious way to fix that problem that will make it so people learn more and do a better job at the same time, and in all seriousness we don't do that as a country. At best we sometimes will throw a little money blindly at a problem and not actually care about other people enough to fix their lives in a serious manner, especially if it inconveniences people in any way.
