...and still no proportional representation. My vote was and will remain, wasted. Great (again, I'm taxed far too much in this country to not have my vote count. It's ridiculous. At least in the States when my vote didn't count, the government wasn't taking half as much).
The Tories have mentioned offering a referendum on alternative vote, but that is really doesn't change anything, as you can see here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/8644480.stm (did you notice the difference between the first-past-the-post system of now and AV? Me neither).
The problem is twofold: this strange fear against mixed governments that the rest of Europe (and even Scotland) has plenty of, and of course the simple fact that proportional representation isn't in the main two party's interests - they lose power. That's the only reason I trusted the Lib Dems to actually get it done - it was to their benefit.
Alas, fail.
