Cosa Nostra

Are members of American and Italian Mafia gentleman criminals or just pathetic fat guys who extort money from helpless people?

It's not really a question of "gentlemen criminals" vs. "pathetic fat guys." It's really a question of relevance. The old school dons just don't mean a damn thing anymore in the U.S.

You mean that the proper criminals can still be found in America?

No, he means the men that lived by a principle, and took an oath, have all but vanished. Whether it be the old school dying off, or the new school not having the honor to take their medicine, and being the cheese eating rats they all seem to be, and throwing the old school under the bus, instead of doing their time. The true figures of organized crime, have disappeared, only to be replaced by ruthless, thugs, that lack honor, respect, and discretion. They have no regard for a code of ethics. They deal *****, and indiscriminately, and ruthlessly slaughter innocent bystanders.

Right and these same tough guys begging therapy when they end up in prison.

But we might think about this issue too pessimistic because certainly there are also honest criminals, thieves and whores.

Do you really believe all of that mythology? There was no more principle in La Cosa Nostra than there is in the current gangs. At best, there was a more rigid hierarchy in the ranks. Beyond that, they old dons were nothing more than better public relations people. They may have been generous to the community to some degree, like Joey Merlino handing out turkeys to welfare families in Philly. But the fact remains that the community was also painfully aware that they were in the presence of someone to be feared. Oh, and the old dons and capos dressed better. How do I know this? My great great grandparents left Italy because they wanted nothing to do with the "****** business," however, I do still have distant relatives who are made men.

I'm aware that they were all ruthless thugs, but at least they rarely ratted out their cohorts, and when they got pinched, they took it. They ****** people, but they ****** the people they set out to ****. They didn't just drive by the wrong house and shoot up a bunch of innocent little ****. True, they were criminals, but at least they were better then what's around today. These Mexican, and South American gangs are way worse, I don't know how you can even compare the 2...other then they were criminals. I'm not saying they were misunderstood saints...but as you said, they did do some good, amongst all of the bad.

Cosa Nostra doesn't exist. Never heard of 'em.

Why are you struggling so hard to defend something you clearly know nothing about? "Rarely ratted out their cohorts"? Hardly. "Omerta," the so-called code of silence, is nothing more than brilliant public relations. Guys got ratted out with embarrassing regularity. Remember the part in Batman where Jack Nicholson's boss calls the police and sets him up for arrest or assassination? Routine practice in the ****** business. Oh, and, yes, innocents completely uninvolved in the business DID get ****** with just as much regularity as the made men got ratted out.

You would be surprised at what I know...leave it at that, and drop it.

So you're a police officer. :pacing:

No, but I'm not going to argue with someone, over something stupid, that doesn't no me, or what I know, but claims to have "******". If he did, he would be smart enough to not say it on the internet. He's a noob trolling for an internet argument, and I can think of better subjects to argue about.

Advice; Do not respond to those who are trying to push you.

By the way, do you know anyone who is a member of the Mafia?

Which is why I'm dropping it, and suggesting he do the same....that's my business ,who, and what I know, is not something I would talk about to ANYONE, I don't know, let alone on an open forum.
