Contempt of Court

Anyone in the United States have to pay a fine or spend a night in jail for contempt of court? If so what was the fine or how many days did you spend in jail? What jail is it? The courthouse lock up? I'm potentially facing a fine or a day in jail if I don't have a reasonable explanation on why I never returned my jury duty questionnaire. If the fine is too high I'll just spend a night in lock up.

No. but I have been close. So why not just give a reasonable explanation? Even if you have to embellish a bit.

Objection your honor, I would like to treat the defendant as a hostile witness.

Well I have one. They sent the jury summons questionnaire to my parents home which I am not currently at. It is listed as my primary residence but I haven't been a regular there for a couple years. I currently live out of state.

Just tell them you'd make a great juror because you can tell if a person is guilty or not just by looking at them.

Actually, that's all you need to tell them.

Just add that your parents didn't know what it was and can they please reschedule you so you can do your civic duty.

I found out that I had been called for duty in Florida after I moved to the NL and the form was due (got sent about 6 month later in a bunch of mail my old roommate sent for me). I just called the courthouse, explained I moved out of the country and unless the county was willing to pay for my airfare, room, and board to come and appear, to please take me out of the computer. ;-)

Don't think Okeechobee was all that rich.
