Yes. It goes by several different names but all of them are similar. Suddenly, you'll get a pop-up that tells you your computer is infected and asks you to install their anti-virus software. The trick is, even if you X-click out of the window or tell it "no", the simple act of clicking your mouse installs the virus. The only way that I have found to keep the fucking thing from automatically installing itself on your hard drive is to click absolutely nothing and hard boot your computer.

If you are infected, download and install Malwarebytes (it's free) and run a scan. When it displays the infection(s), remove it (them), reboot and you should be OK.

Get Malwarebytes here:

Good luck. What a pain in the ass.

Be carefull with that mate, it could be a programm that you've downloaded which tells you that you have a 1000 virusses, but the programm itself is one big virus or spyware.

I have MalwareBytes, SpywareBlaster, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, as well as my Antivirus Program I run on my computer.

If something pops up that I am not sure of clicking X on I will usually Ctrl+Alt+Del and close out my browser.

System Tool? Yeah, that's a good one. Whoever came up with that one is especially sharp. Much respect to whoever crafted that gem. :hatsoff: Course, I'd tie him naked to an ant hill and pour honey on his balls, but he would still be one smart eunuch.

From what I've read, some people actually bend over and send these crooks the ********* money. And within a few weeks or months, they come back and get you again. Cause now, they've pretty much got control of your system.

When I got it, it wouldn't let me do anything that would defeat it. So I just saved all the files that I could on a thumbdrive and dumped the OS.

I received a phone call the other day by someone who purported to work for a Windows Support Group, who was so worried about the hidden viruses on my computer that my anti-virus had failed to pick up that, if allowed, he would graciously take it upon himself in all of his good graces to gain access to my computer remotely and fix the problem, which I thought was nice of him...

Of course, upon further prodding this fine young gentleman had absolutely no idea what kind of viruses they were or what OS I was using or any other details about myself other than my name and what my phone number was. He then became rather rude, so I hung up.

Thank you Windows Support Group. :hatsoff: :1orglaugh

Always tick that little box ladies and gentlemen: "Tick this box if you would not like your details sold onto other companies etc"

lol I can not tell if you are joking or not right now

No, no. Look up the Windows Support Group, they be scamming bitchez for a while now.

Here's another pretty good program to root out maleware: http://www.surfright.nl/en

And yes, I've come across these quite a bit both at work and at home and because I work from a user profile in both locations (doesn't have admin rights so I can't download), I always get ones that embed themselves deep in my temp files.

In fact, I had a nasty one in Sept that went in 2 stages. The first was a redirect to another site whenever I clicked on links in a google search and then I got the total hijack and ********* ****.

o_O I agree with Jagger, a total pain in the ass.

ha, first I read about this. Nice lol

From what I've been able to gather by reading other peoples accounts is that this company will direct you to a website where they'll give you a "special code" which will automatically download some software that they say is specifically designed to combat these hidden viruses, upon which time they'll halt proceedings and demand payment. By which time I guess your system is already infested with whatever they've just put on it and they have access to it. So you're fucked.

I think it was the end of 2008 when I got one something like that. I didn't realize what was going on though. But in Google, the links had a different kind of look to them. And if I hovered my cursor over them, I could see the address at the bottom wasn't what was in the link.

And the "coolest" thing about that virus was it wouldn't let me go to ANY site that had to do with virus or spyware protection (not Microsoft, Spybot, Norton, Trendmicro, AVG or any of the others), but it would let me go to any other site that required a password. I decided to go to the Wells Fargo site (because I don't have any banking relationship with Wells Fargo) and it took me right to it.

Even the IT guy at work couldn't get that one out. Once again... dump the OS and start fresh.

Like I said, I do have to give them credit; the little turds who create these things are not idiots.
