Cheap Eats

One of my biggest food sources is oatmeal. I could probably go out and buy 12-14 of the decent sized canisters of it for $35. Sure I don't eat just that, but still that's like 14 pounds of the stuff. Yeah keeping yourself to only $11.50 per meal isn't exactly a hard feat to pull off.

That much oatmeal would last for weeks, at least, months more likely. Yeah, $11.50 per meal is just wasteful, really!

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I wish a got a $35 daily food stipend, I can eat really fucking cheap, I imagine I would end up pocketing $25/day, easy.

Depends, $35.00 a day goes farther in Cleveland, then New York City.

Oatmeal? Jesus Christ man, live a little.

$35 a day? Pssh I could easily eat on $35 a week. I'm Mexican and I remember back when I was younger on the week the mortgage payment was due my mom would tell us that it's "rice and beans this week". We'd go a week or so eating nothing but frijoles(beans), arroz(rice), tortillas, and queso. Simple eating. For $35 a week:

Beans $3
Tortillas $3
Rice $3
Mexican cheese $5
Chorizo $2

And I still have $ left over

Staples are cheap, and most of the crap produced as convenience and fast food are made out of wholesale staples at commercial prices, turned around and sold at an obscene markup. That 99¢ burrito might have cost a dime to make. Meat is the most expensive commodity, and they have dirty tricks to make it cheaper to produce and fillers to make it stretch further. I'm not sure if I knew you were Mexican, but, a huevo, esas son mamadas!

Same here. That kind of budget would make me save a ton of cash in no time :)

Indeed, and spending $10/day is assuming that's by necessity not eating at the house. Eating at the house I could shave my daily budget down to about $3. Yeah, I wouldn't mind sticking $32/day in the bank.

I like rice and beans enough I don't even think I could be disappointed in hearing that. Sure, after about two months strait it might start to get old, but I could go a long time with it all things being equal. I know if somebody told me I had a nice bowl of it waiting for me after work I would think it awesome. Also about once a month I make a gigantic pot of refried beans and eat it over the course of a week and a half with small tortillas. (Since I started making it myself instead of buying it in a can I have never went back. When I'm feeling in a mood to go more out I will even grind up some egg, bacon, and fried potatoes and add it into the beans to make cheap breakfast burritos for that amount of time.

Refried beans on a breakfast burrito? Sounds disgusting

Eggs with refried beans doesn't even remotely sound good.

Mexicans love their beans and rice, that's just a fact, might seem odd to some folks, but it's certainly not unique to Mexican culture. Pairing beans with rice provides a complete protein, which is a good thing. Now, if I ever find ranchero frijoles piled on top of my slice of tres leches, there's gonna be some 'splainin to do, essay.

Beans and rice don't sound odd too me at all, it's the refried beans and egg burritos that make my stomach turn.
