I have every book compilation of Calvin & Hobbes.....at my parents house (they're impossible to shop for). When I visit, I often go find them in the bookshelf. Easily in the Top 5 of all comic strips.

I agree...only 2 I think I've enjoyed more, was Bloom County, and The Far Side.

Many, many years ago there was a strip called Downstown. What I vaguely remember of it was that it was pretty effing funny. But I don't know if it got a very wide circulation. But that's another one of my top picks, along with Peanuts of course.
 
Calvin and Hobbes is without equal. Such a beautifully done strip.

Poignant. Simple.

I'm also a big fan of NonSequitur....it's that special brand of twisted humor.
