Bought a house.

:D Been a busy few weeks and it'll be a busy few more. Any tipson getting rid of the smell of smoke? Special scent removal primers/paints? Air filters? Carpet cleaning?

Buying a house was my new years resolution. How are y'all doing on yours?

Good frickin work, man. That's great!

The house I most recently bought had bad enough smells that I had to rip out all carpet and coat all walls, ceilings, and subfloors with primer. If yours isn't that bad, a professional carpet cleaning and a VERY thorough paint job will do it. Get rid of all soft things - curtains and the like. They're just smell remnants of the previous owners.

In short, get rid of as much that isn't tile that you can. Paint everything - primer first, a good primer, and then paint. The smell will then be gone.

Congrats on the house!
:hatsoff:

What dirk said is true. A good coat of primer can do wonders, and most anything cloth will most likely contain some form of scent from before. My best wishes on the house. :glugglug:

A pie tin filled with charcoal briquettes - not the kind with lighter fluid already in them - placed under furniture, or anywhere discreet.

Wash the walls with TSP...from the bottom to the top. Prime with "Killz II" primmer. Paint with a good brand of paint....Sherwin Williams, Glidden. Something like those. Use semi-gloss in the kitchen and bath...it's easier to wipe down when it gets dirty. Personally, if it's an older house, and it has REAL hardwood floors, I would pull up the carpet, sand the floors, and put 2 coats of oil based Min wax, hi build poly urethane, in your choice of finish. I used semi gloss...wish I went with high gloss though. If not, get a company to professionally clean your carpet. They'll be able to deodorize them better then you.

So... When's the housewarming party? What should I bring? :D

Congratulations on the house. :glugglug:

So when we gonna move in, Diva? :shy:

I don't know about houses, but for cars professional cleaners use ozone against the smell of smoke. :dunno:

Did it come with a mouse? Because a house without a mouse is not a house.

As you Canucks say: There's a moose in the hoose, eh!

How big is it?

Congratulations, good thing nobody can ever steal it from you.

Unless he has a bank mortgage. But I think the mortgage laws a bit different in Canada than here. Here, a bank can steal a house with relative ease. There, maybe not.

BTW, 'Diva, are you near Montreal? Cause if'n you is, I wanna stay at your pad during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend next year. Just shoot me a PM and let me know where you hide the key.

Replace all the toilets. :2 cents:

You don't need to prime walls if they have already been painted. Unless they need to be patched. :2 cents:

And outlets. If your house has Knob and tube wiring, check the wire, to make sure it's not brittle. A loose wire, and a metal work box, can easily cause a fire. Wrap the outlet in electrical tape, after you secure the wires. Do that for the switches too.
