Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
Does this remind you of someone? :yinyang:
This was a major area of research for me in college. It's very common particularly in females and some believe it has to do with the aftermath of children raised after the Vietnam War. Broken homes are also a contributing factor, so there is also a tendency to run in families. It can consist of several components. The worst combination is the narcissistic type and the schizoid type. In the case of females, the narcissist who needs no one aggressively protects the little girl using feminine sexuality. On the other hand it's aggression protecting the frightened and lonely little girl child scares off others, from the child who wants to be loved, so it craves attention and affection, and loops around to become too vulnerable. The schizoid component provides a switch to almost instantly move between the two personas when living as one or the other becomes too painful. It is very difficult to treat.
