Bloomberg ban on styrofoam plus ****** composting.

Good. Styrofoam is a blight on the planet. There's nothing it's used for that can't be substituted by something better. Styrofoam cups and take-out containers are utterly useless.

And if anyone wants to get their panties in a twist about this, join the push to legalize industrial hemp, help out the farmer, and open the door for styrofoam products to be replaced by something better, cheaper, and biodegradeable.

If there is anything close to the price that does the same job then I'm for it too. Paper cups cost 4 times the price of foam. These little stores will get hurt on coffee sales. How much will takeout food places have to jack up their prices? Is Mike B. ready to join the hemp parade?

I agree, but Styrofoam makes coffee taste like ****. It's like **** from a can, you can ***** it, but it does effect the flavor. I would pay an extra half a buck per cup, if that's what it took.

Bob....this is the sort of thing I expect from Sampon. If it's any consolation, it was painful for me to say that. Nothing is going to hurt coffee sales. Ever. It's coffee. Make the cup out of cow **** and sales still won't drop by a single cup. And the price for needless pollution is ass-****** us across the board. It's in our oceans and watersheds, ******* are *********** on this crap. And I've had some styrofoam where you couldn't taste the fucking coffee. What causes that?

Keep in mind, this whole "price increase" line was the same one that the auto industry used when they violently objected to mandatory seat-belts in cars. So c'mon, let's get real. Prices are going to go up no matter what. When they do for a good reason that I can point to, I don't mind so much.

Edit:

There ya go. What was i just saying?

There are few better examples of 'get yours now and screw later' in an economic/environmental way than Styrofoam. Good riddance.

Someone needs to start a petition to ban Bloomberg from America.

Styrofoam is great for packaging and needs to stay.

So true. Even partially agreeing with Mayhem is like kissing your ******. :eeew:

I'll allow that form-fitted styrofoam might be hard to replace. But packing peanuts are an obscenity, can be replaced by popcorn, which helps the farmers, can be tossed out as bird feed, and biodegrades.

I agree...I want my expensive electronics snugly packed. I simply can't see using it in any food service situation. I can get over the peanuts, but the popcorn thing is interesting, I've never heard of that before.

There's always bubble wrap...fun to pop...annoys the wife. Win, win!

I can't get over the peanuts. They blow around everywhere and are a major source of pollution. Popcorn has been used for quite a while. The "danger" in it is that you aren't supposed to eat it and **** aren't going to pay attention to that.

Hey Bob, Bloomberg doesn't stop with his **** only in New York.....

Go to the 2:55 mark on the video, and see who's name pops up attempting to stop this Pro-*** candidate from winning.

....and about those packing peanuts and popcorn, are they still being made with starch? Was years ago when I remember seeing them at NCR Corp., when I worked there. As soon as they came into contact with water, they dissolved. And, they were edible also.

Why didn't he start doing this in city offices or schools long ago? He's been Mayor for 11 years. They certainly use their share. Premium Link Upgrade If there were containers close to the price of styrofoam that did the same job then fine. Businesses would buy them. But this isn't the case. Not even in his own schools under his direct control chose to do this.

True the coffee sales won't go down but this is where they make their money on gross margin to support the rest of the store. Worse for the takeout places. They are going to raise the prices for food because each container is going to cost more money. People notice when the price goes up and start making choices. If my ****** takeout goes up 2-3 dollars then I'm going to think about not making that stop.

You keep hammering away at the money aspect of this. I'm a guy who lives in Las Vegas and an 18 year veteran of the casino biz, and I'm asking you to look at the fact that this **** is toxic to our planet. There's more to life and existence than money. And like Rev and I posted consecutively above, when the taste of the beverage is altered, that means something else has been introduced to it. Does this not trouble you? Or are you too busy saving a quarter a cup to wonder what type of chemical wipes out the taste of coffee?
