True enough.....I totally agree with you there. Though I didn't word it as good as I could have, I actually meant that the American people lost their innocence because of Watergate from the perspective of the American people believing what their government and elected officials told them. I believe the vast majority of people did up to that point, and I'd argue the vast majority have not ever since.
But yeah, the tragic events in Dallas on November 22, 1963, and the murder of President Kennedy is definitely the defining modern event that literally stole America's innocence.....especially since it took place in the television age....because seeing all of the images on television certainly drove the fact of what happened home to all of America. I believe that, and the murders that followed (Martin Luther King Jr., Robert Kennedy, amongst others), along with the escalation of the Vietnam War, are what led to the rise of the counter culture that followed.
Now, Kennedy's murder did spark the civil rights movement being fast tracked by President Johnson as a tribute to Kennedy.....and I believe much that happened in the mid-60's wouldn't have happened until the mid-70's in all likelihood had Johnson not become the President the way he did.......But, if Kennedy hadn't been murdered, who knows what the country would look like today.....though I suspect it would look a far sight different than it does. Watergate would never have even happened, because Nixon would have never been elected President in all likelihood......and he was only elected in '68 because Johnson decided not to run & the Democratic Party was fragmated by the War in Vietnam......which in and of itself fucked more than it's share of young men & women in this country.
So yeah, the fact that President Kennedy was murdered, and the images and all......along with the events that I believe stemmed from that, definitely stole our innocence forever.

I couldn't tell you how many times that I've ignored something that you posted.....even if it was directed at me....but believe me, I've ignored you SEVERAL times. I suspect that you have rarely, if ever, disregarded anything that has been posted about you. It seems to me that you have PLENTY of time if you ask me.

For fucks sake, what was the alternative? McCain and the ever pathetic loser (and quitter) Sarah Palin? Does anyone really believe we would be in any better shape if McCain were elected? SERIOUSLY? I've already said before that I wasn't an Obama fan, and since he's taken office, he's done nothing to change my opinion of him......he's not demonstrated anything resembling strong leadership.....and I wish he'd just grow a pair already.......but I did vote for him, and given the two viable options that I was presented with, I'd vote for him again today......doesn't mean that I'm happy with him, because I'm not......it just means that he was the better of the two options.....and he still is. :2 cents:

You forgot to include "operation fast and furious" or "gunwalker" in there. I know it's early, but come on! You really think a couple mid level bureucrats would have conceived it and carried it out without approval from people in higher levels? Just how far up does it go?
Plus, nobody died during the Watergate scandal, and regardless of how unpopular George Bush is (because it's all a popularity contest here) and his warrantless wiretapping nobody died from that scandal either, but how many Mexicans (and Border Patrol officers) have been killed directly because of gunwalker weapons? If this were a Republican in the White House (like during Iran-Contra but no Americans died there either), this scandal would be all over the news with reporters wanting to know exactly from how high up was this operation approved, was it at the ATF/FBI director level? Was it at the Attorney General level? Or was it approved by the president himself?

And it's not "liberal guilt" at all. It's called being fed up with people of my own race who act like absolute fucking morons, in that many of them allow the GOP to exploit their ignorance and basest instincts to further the agenda of a rather small minority....namely the rich, and get them to consistantly vote against their own socio-economic self-interests time and time again. Guilt has nothing to do with it.
