Darth Sidious... He killed his master, brought down the Republic & the jedi council (his machinations did anyway), had the most feared man in the universe (Darth Vader) as his boy toy, actually got to rule his empire for 20-30 years & would have actually (easily) killed Luke had DV not intervened at the last moment.
Sauron.... Took over when his master was banished, was beaten before the story of the LotR, lost his corporeal form & ring of power, failed to rule the leaders of the other races or to destroy them & was eventually beaten by a 3 ft tall creature.
Voldemort... Don't know him, but I assume he's a wimp.
Other dark lords worth mentioning.
Hazeel Thorn... Ruler of the black moon faction in the empire of Lyhnn. Wants to overthrow the empire and has the protagonist of the series Black moon chronicles comics at his side. He fakes his own death so that the Emperor of Lyhnn will avert his eyes. Haven't read the last 3 comics yet...
The Others... A song of ice and fire.... don't know much about them yet, except that they're apparently being lead (or maybe they want to free) a creature known as the great other...
