Bernie Sanders' revolution

I caught a snippet of Bernie Sanders this morning where he said this election isn't about the next president but a "political revolution."

What does he mean by that? Because if we're to have a leftist revolution let's just cut to the chase and eliminate this pretense of freedom, indepenence and consent of the governed. It's what's best for the people that matters and addressing inequality wherever it exists. The janitor should be equal to the doctor. In fact, the doctor should be mopping floors while the janitor performs surgery on you or your loved ones (which has been done). Whatever it takes to get to that egalitarian utopia.

I could mute the sound on my tv and know where a person stands politically by that look in their eyes. I call it the dumb lights. It's just that look that you see, most often with celebs.
No, it's not exclusive to the left but it's prevalent.

"We're going to take our country back." Tea Party rallying cry; what's that supposed to mean?

This is exactly the reason why Sanders will not win a general election. This isn't directed towards you, but good luck trying to educate the American voter on the difference between socialism, democratic socialism and Communism. I have zero confidence in the American voter.

does it really matter? The end goals are the same, the difference being what they're willing to do to get there and how much of a hurry they're in.

All three are antithetical to America. The first european settlers here tried that shit and they nearly starved to death.

"I think Bernie Sanders is a good candidate for president ... of Sweden."

It matters. If he's the nominee the Republicans are going to use the word "socialist" and beat it in to the voters. They're going to say Sanders is "coming for your stuff"(which is a favorite saying among conservatives). He's then going to have to explain what socialism means and how it's different from democratic socialism, communism, etc. Once he starts explaining, that means he's losing.

I don't think Bernie was referring to some "socialist revolution". I do not think he was either refering to what would happen if he wins the election. I think he was reffering to what's actually happening in this election, in these primaries, to how 2016 could be a turning point in American politics : establishment candidates being rejected by voters in both parties.
Both Trump and Bernie (and Cruz as well) are the living embodiment of this new trend in American politics (but it also happens in some other countries politics with anti-establishment parties and candidates winning election in France, Spain, Greece, etc) : the rise of anti-establishment candidates and the distrust of the population towards establishment candidates (such as Jeb or Hillary).

Yes, it matters. It matters because there is almost nothing in common betwen Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedung or Fidel Castro on one side and Matteo Renzi, Gerhard Schroder or Tony Blair on the other side.
From 1997 to 2007, UK prime minister was Tony Blair, from the Labour Party. Did it seemed to you that UK was crumbling ?
Today, after 20 years of political and economical chaos from both right-wing and left-wing politicians, Matteo Renzi, a social-democrat, is getting Italy back on tracks.

All three are antithetical to America.
Social democrats policies are not very different from the policies introduced by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Was Roosevelt unamerican ? Was the New Deal unamerican ?

Comparing the current situation with what happened about 500 years ago in a nation that was barely in formation, II don't think it's relevant.

that is true, but this insurgency is coming from different places. On one side, Obama has done too much and overstepped his bounds, on the other, Obama hasn't done enough. The electorate is more polarized than ever it seems.

Some would say that the New Deal prolonged The Great Depression and that the recovery was a result of WWII just like we're 7 years into the "recovery" from 2008. Well-intentioned programs that don't work are, well-intentioned.

Sure it is, what happened then was a forecast, a microcosim, socialism in a petrie dish and a warning for future American generations.

But this is why I like discussing politics, especially with people who I disagree with. I'm forced to either defend my position or rethink or change my mind or be in denial.

You've won me over, Johan. I like Bernie Sander's sincerity - he makes no bones about what he stands for and that's why he's appealing to so many. And Trump waving around the bible his mom gave to him is pandering to a sickening degree. And being pro-jewish more than I'm pro-american, I'm willing to give Bernie Sanders a shot. I'm voting for him. Seriously.

The revolution he references is ironically directly opposite your fears; it's about more consent of the governed. It's about getting people to actually vote. I can't find the direct quote, but he said something along the lines of "If voter turnout were 70-80%, this would be a very different country" - and he's right. You've probably seen this already (it's already had a thread here for sure), but here's where we are now: The USA is an oligarchy. Why? People will say, "Oh, Democrats this, Republicans that, Citizens United Citizens United Citizens United!" etc., etc., but these are all excuses. The 'why' is pretty simple: people don't vote for their own interests. This is a two-parter; the people who don't vote, period, and those not voting in their own interests but being foolishly hoodwinked into thinking they are (if I were to make a broad generalization: partisan voters). The 'revolution' is about that first half.

Barack Obama was first elected president with 30.2% of the eligible vote. 28% the next election around. George W with 24% and 28.2% respectively. The last off-year election to have a turnout above 40% was 1970. In 2014 it was about 33%. No wonder our government doesn't represent us. We don't fucking demand it to.

This is what Bernie Sanders is talking about.

The revolution s happening in both parties. Especially on the republican side. You can't get the nomination if you are a republican, basically. That is so mind-boggling. Well, they pandered more and more to their donors, and lost so much of their touch with reality outside, even a reality show clown has far better chances, he just has to be an outsider, entertaining and push the right buttons with the crowd.

On the democratic side, a woman as a candidate lead? That is unbelievable. But to imagine that now people are torn between an establishment woman and an anti-establishment long-time runner who actually always has acted as others only lie and lie, he is on the same level, regarding chances right now.

Because more and more americans are sick and tired. The percentage who didn't even bother to vote grew way too high. Now the key is: Who triggers them to come back in and believe that things can actually change in a system rigged so extremely against basically the 99%?

Against all odds, it seems to happen. A-change is gonna come, as it seems.

I think Sanders REALLY could use this song that some other guy used as his anthem

Well, if you like Bernie, you'll absolutely love Mikey. You better love him. Or you better at least say that you love him. In fact, you better say that you love him through all three of his terms as POTUS. Now drop that sugary drink, put out that cigarette and get in line for the morning song praising our new emper... uh, President!

You're joking, right ? I mean, off-course sincerity matters. I understand that, being pro-jewish, a jewish candidate like Bernie is kinda appealing to you. Bu what about policy ? What about what he actually stands for. Free college, single payer health-care system, breaking the big banks, taxing the rich, raising the minimum wage, etc. Are you really gonna vote for a candidate who wants to do all that ?
I mean, compared to Bernie, Obama and Hillary are both hardcore corporatists.

Bernie did well in Iowa, barely getting edged out by Hildabeast so that just affirms the trajectory I suspect the race will take. No matter, I was pleasantly surprised that a fellow Texan, Ted Cruz beat out the Trump, no doubt, this race isn't failing to deliver. Cruz '16!

Ok, we've got animus backing Bernie and xfire backing Cruz. Something strange is happening here...

I just watched Hilldebeast win the fucking Iowa caucus on a goddamn coin toss and I got to thinking that Bernie's core supporters are a bunch of fat lesbians. Seriously.
