I do not understand the benefit of putting this guy behind bars. He's 71 and in good shape. Make him work to provide restitution to his victims. The guy could return millions over the next 10 years.

If I were ripped off by him, I would want my money back. Stick him in jail at night.

It would seem pretty difficult to make someone work to generate money for others by way of investing as the concept is pretty nebulous IMO.

What would be the means test for his adherence to the order as investment performance is risk proposition.

I mean, if he were really unbridled (which is what he would need be to realistically ply his "skills" in the market) he could do everything right and still lose investors (more) money. Then who do you blame?

I know he ripped people off for allot of money but you'd have to be fool to look to this guy as a means of trying to recoup what was lost through his investment abilities.

You apparently assume the guy is somewhat more than a hustler and scam artist. Maybe a duck is just a duck.

Investments... seize his assets, create a fund to invest with and pay restitution.

Even if he was once the greatest investment trader in history, which he wasn't, I would imagine his reputation is so shot that he couldn't be effective anymore. Plus if he's going be in prison the rest of his life, he doesn't really have any incentive to do anything that will help anybody other than him.

Wait... his reputation ? Everyone else on Wall Street sees each of themselves in Bernie Madoff. But for the grace of God there go I must be Wall St.'s favorite saying today.

And what incentive ? 24 hrs a day behind bars in a max facility vs. nights and weekends in a club fed and he still gets to ply his trade...

And as for the seed money, use his own ill gotten gains to seed it. Let those that have been ripped off by the guy decide.

Here in the US, Good Morning America interviewed a couple of his victims, many wanted life, but two people said they just wanted their money back. I can understand that.

You do understand that he was not a "money maker" and that all the did was swindle people? He was a "money taker" and a buyer of yachts.

I don't know about you but the idea of Bernie Madoff tasked with legitimately investing money for profitable returns is pretty ridiculous. What will he do--sit in his cell, at a computer, watching CNBC all day and trading stocks?:dunno: What happens when he loses even more money? Whose money do we give him? The people he ripped off have no money. Should we give him taxpayer money:thumbsup:

I'm pretty sure I could make more money in the stock market than Bernie Madoff could.

So Bernie gets 150 years, but child molesters and rapists get out within 6 months!

Well yeah, there are always exceptions. But I'd say that most convicted child molesters (male anyway ;)) and rapists usually get a lot more than 6 months. White collar criminals tend to get pretty light sentences, even when they commit felonies. What did Martha Stewart serve, about 5 months? There are shoplifters that do harder time than that.

I think the exception (maybe the rule) comes into play when the accused is wealthy or famous. Like the football player who killed somebody while driving drunk. I think he just got sentenced to 30 days. If you or I got drunk and killed somebody while behind the wheel, we'd be fairly well fucked, I'd say.

I'd bet on you, and I don't even know you. :hatsoff:

If you were to buy (or sell) a stock or option tomorrow morning, and sell it 30 minutes later for a $5 profit, you would have probably made more money in that one day than Bernie made trading stocks and options in the past 10 years... cause I'm not aware that ol' Bernard traded even the first equity or options contract.

I agree with you there. The new iPhone/iPod series seems to be doing well. And with or without Jobs, I think they'll be fine. Great company. Very good pick.

Here's a quick sad story. About 5 years ago (+/-), I bought AAPL at $38. I think I sold it somewhere around $44. Yep, I sure did. If I'm not mistaken, it's since split 2 for 1. Woohoo! I made about $1800 there! I should have taken that money and hired a femdom to kick me in the balls for that trade. And not a pretty femdom either - a real ugly one. I get sick thinking about that trade.

Americans like the concept of "an eye for an eye".
Thats why he got 150yrs.

My first stock selection would be.....Apple. I have a good feeling about that little company...AAPL to $160 in 2 months....

You're out of your mind, with respect.

Apple share price appears to be predicated on the state of Steve Jobs health.

I've read three separate articles in the British broadsheets stating as much.

Is somewhere outhere.
I thought the worse thing they could do to him would be making him bankrupt,
instead of giving him a shiny cell paid the by taxpayer :dunno:

The brain behind the biggest Ponzi scheme in history. A good bit of the money came from charities and schools that he focused on.

I feel really bad for the people in the 80's and 90's who now find out that they're broke.

His wife is as guilty as he is, IMO. But he's not ratting on her, so her and the kids are still free. But I hope that the government rides her until they take all of her money or she drops dead of a heart attack. Same with his kids and his whore niece who (literally) sucked SEC cock to keep old Unc out of trouble. May they all burn in Hell.

Agreed.

His entire family were party to the fraud.
they ought to be pursued.

Bankrupt only on paper. That's only counting the assets that have been accounted for. There are tens of billions in unaccounted for assets.

Personally, I'd like to see him sent to Gitmo. Give those those nice Arab boys some "family time" with him. Within a week, I bet he'd be able to rattle off secret account numbers like a fat kid ordering food.

I doubt they'll ever find all of the money. But if they lean on Ruthie's old ass hard enough (go after the kids, the grandkids... hell, random people with the name Madoff!), I bet she'll slip up sooner than later. That old hag knows a hell of a lot more than she's letting on.

Good. Probably be reading about his death in two years. Prison is not a healthy environment and at this age it will just speed up the process.

I hope they sell all of his assets, and erase his seed from the face of the planet.

the feds looked the other way on him for years. someone knew but decided it wasn't a priority. as long as the market was up and people were happy, all was good
