Not everyone's cup of tea..mostly because of his sexist and "racist" jokes (I put racist in quotes because he always denied that he was racist).

One of his favourite opening gags was to find some old woman in the front row of a gig and ask 'Was it cold in the ground this morning love?'

See ya Bernie :angels:

Good riddance to an archaic, racist arsehole. Even the jokes he made that weren't blatantly racist or sexist were still the kind of thing that an amatuer could come up with.

Manning was the best. R.I.P

I wonder whats gonna happen to his club in manchester?

It is said of the late Charlie Williams (a fellow stand-up comedian who appeared alongside Bernard Manning) that "his reinforcement of his audience's prejudices and negative race stereotypes was perhaps a necessary product of the environment and time in which where his career began" (see wikipedia).
One could probably say the same of Bernard Manning. 30-odd years ago, the UK very different. BBC shows like The Black and White Minstrel Show (where black comedian Lenny Henry appeared), and the ITV sitcoms Mind Your Language & Love Thy Neighbour were politically incorrect - and very popular. Lenny Henry himself started by doing stand-up comedy which often included making jokes and impressions now considered un-PC (or even racist in some quarters).

But this is getting :2offtopic

RIP.

Never found him that funny. Just to often knew the punchline before it came. Even then a comedian main weapon is timing. His never hit for me. But he was liked by many.

RIP.
