Batman or IronMan?

WHO IS BETTER, BATMAN OR IRON MAN?

Batman. I reckon Bruce Wayne is pretty handy in a fight without any of his gimmicks, but Tony Stark is fuck all without his suit. Plus Batman saves the day because it's the right thing to do and that, and doesn't get any glory for it, in fact is out and out vilified for it. Stark's a glory hunting [NOBABE]prima donna.[/NOBABE]

In general comic terms, I'm Marvel over DC any day of the week. Except when it comes to the Batman.

Not true. Stark actually has pretty intensive hand-to-hand training thanks to his time with Captain America. Is he on Batman or Captain America's level? No, but he's still quite the butt kicker.

Oh, and off-and-on Stark has superpowers thanks to internalizing technology, including a healing factor and enhanced physical attributes, being able to control technology with his mind, and even storing entire suits of armor inside of his body so that he is never without his suit.

Actually Batman saves the day because he wants revenge on the world for what happened to his parents, and Batman has gotten plenty glory for it in the past. He's been officially associated with Gotham PD, and a high profile member of his world's most lauded super team, the Justice League. And Stark wasn't exactly glory hunting for all of his career either, in fact he spent many years hiding the fact that he was Iron Man.

In one of the Marvel DC crossovers Batman fought Captain America to a draw. Considering Captain America is quite augmented, that's pretty impressive. Subsequently in another crossover, Batman was holding his own for awhile against the entire X-Men (albeit a weaker roster). That said it depends on the writer of course.

There are loads of characters on both sides that are better fighters. I am primarily DC (I don't read any Marvel anymore, just because there are thousands of comics on both brands and I prefer DC). But on the DC side alone Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger, Connor Hawke and select others are all better fighters than Bruce Wayne. Tony Stark would be destroyed by any of them quite easily, and Batman would have minimal trouble as well (refer to above Cap. America post).

Batman actually STARTED his war on crime due to his parents death. He keeps it up to protect the innocent (or the weak as he says, and he definitely doesn't use the word revenge anymore, that's for sure). I'm sure his parents death is in the back of his mind all the time of course. And calling Batman out for glory because of his Justice League ties?? How many funerals and events has the Justice League attended that Batman has followed suit? Sue Dibnys funeral, he wasn't there. Supermans funeral (one of his closest friends), he hid in the shadows. Green Arrow and Black Canarys wedding, he wasn't there. Unlike Tony Stark, Batman prefers to avoid the "events." He finishes a mission with the JLA and normally bails out afterwards. Not to impune Tony Stark for doing it, but to say it's Batmans thing. Completely wrong. And I have no idea when being associated with select members of a police ***** makes you glorious...especially in Gotham.

Yeah, no one expects me to be a comics nerd, but I love my DC brand (currently reading Superman/Batman 2003-2011 series).

Happy, I won't dispute any of what you said, but it's only nerds like me and thee that care about any of that. The world sees Christian Bale as the moody lone ninja who everybody hates whose suit just makes him look black, and the Robert Downey Jr lavish playboy who holds big parties and who doesn't go into a fight without his lovely metal with built in guns an tings.

Yeah, no one expects me to be a comics nerd,

Yeah, because nobody that keeps themselves in shape or that's into sport is allowed to be into comics, right sexy?

Not really the point. I flat out said that Stark wasn't on Wayne's level, just that he isn't "fuck all" without his suit. He's still an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, and on many occasions (thanks to being given superpowers) can actually go toe-to-toe with people who have vastly more skill.

It's still his motivation. He still broods on it. It still haunts him. It's more than an event that's taught him a lesson. It's not like Spider-man with Uncle Ben's death. Bruce Wayne is forever a broken ten year old boy in an alley mourning over his dead parents. It's his obsession. It's why so many stories involding Hugo Strange or the Scarecrow reference back to it, because it's not something that he's ever been able to deal with, and it's what motivates him and makes him who he is. It's his defining moment.

Whether he wants the glory or not, or plays it up... he's been in the spotlight, and he's part of the establishment. The suggestion was that Wayne is out-and-out vilified for his work, but that's not the case. He's been lauded by the police, and spent more time working directly with them than anything else. He's also a founding member of the most respected superhero team on his planet. That's not exactly what you see from someone who is vilified. The Punisher is vilified, Batman is angsty and people think he's a douche sometimes, mainly because he's a douche sometimes.

EDIT

True, but it's the wrong impression.

I mean, from the popular frame of reference there's also the bat-credit card, Adam West, and the Super Friends... so Batman, even in the public eye, isn't entirely dark. ;)

LoL it's actually a bad stereotype towards people who are into sports and the gym! It is fun though when there are some, **** to say it, but "stereotypical nerds" at the local comic shop and I engage them in discussion. The look on their faces makes me happy :)

Firstly, I think you're confusing "excellent" with "can hold his own for awhile." That was my point. Hence why I listed some excellent fighters.

Secondly, it depends on the writer. Many times he has closed the book on that chapter of his life. Only to have it reopened by another writer who decides a story about fear has to involve the Wayne parents. It is highly left alone lately however. And like I said, he has stated his motivation now is protecting the weak, was that not the original post? I can look back to see if I'm wrong. Of course he dwells on it now and then, but it's gone from avenging his parents, to compassion (as much as Batman has) for the citizens of Gotham.

Thirdly, just refer back to my last post. I have no more comments on that. Now Booster Gold, there's a limelight hog ;)

You don't post on IMDb do you Happy?

I think you're confusing "excellent" with "top tier". You're listing the best of the best, which isn't excellent, it's well beyond that. Tony is proficient enough to mop up in a bar fight. He's good enough to single-handedly tackle a group of your standard thugs. That's pretty damned good.

Secondly, it depends on the writer.

Well, that's true of everything. And really, I think it's part of the problem with comics in general; they lack editorial direction. The editors really should get involved more and establish a baseline. I mean, you have two comics with Batman release in the same month, in one you have a group of street thugs discussing Batman like he's an urban legend, in the other he's standing behind Superman during a Justice League press conference. That doesn't work. Sadly, the editorial folks only seem to get involved when they want to market something, or push a pet agenda. This probably explains why I stopped reading comics several years back with a bitter, bitter taste in my mouth.

You don't post on IMDb do you Happy?

Not lately, though I have frequently in the past. I take it we've spoken there before with you using a different username...?

I guess we have different definitions, we'll leave it at that.

And I have no idea, was just curious :)

About me and IMDb? How... odd. You don't recognize me from there, yet you're curious if I post there. Interestink... :pacing:

Pretty sure that was a reference to the "Curious" section... ;)

No, lol you misunderstood, sorry. I didn't mean "you don't post on IMDb do you" as in I thought I recognized you. I was just asking if you do, because I frequent the boards there (under the username deadbodieseverywhere17).

Oh, lol...ummm, sorry to disappoint! lol

I was insinuating you'd catch a few curious guys looking in your the Fansign thread. Although, I don't really know if bi guys still bother calling themselves "curious" any more. Seems a bit 90s.

Ah, well I used to. Still do I suppose, but rarely. I post under the same username (more or less, I have a -1 added on there). Generally I post everywhere under Happy or some variation thereof, which is actually a nickname I picked up in the real world. I am who I am and I really can't change that. Even if I were to try and pose as something other than myself my true colors would totally shine through, and people would tend to recognize me anyway. Deception isn't exactly a skill of mine. Not that it matters much, since I try not to post stuff that makes me look bad (or worse than I am anyway :D). So yeah, anonymity and me don't mix. :dunno: If you've seen someone posting somewhere and they didn't have "Happy" somewhere in their username, that's not me...

Hell, if I could be someone other than me, trust me... I would :1orglaugh

Though, I am still curious as to why you'd wonder if I was posting there if you didn't recognize me from my username and writing style. Just seems kind of out of left field to ask about IMDb...

Probably because I enjoy a good comic discussion and it's impossible to have one there without people freaking out. And that's the only other board I regularly contribute too. I have an account on a horror site as well, but I exited out of there pretty quick.

I also don't try and be different from my real life person, don't like me? Fuck you. Don't need ya haha :)

Well, IMDb is regularly **** for a lot of things. It's too poorly moderated, since while they do ban people, they never IP ban them. As a result no one gives a ****, and it's become a haven for trolls. That's more or less why I rarely post anymore. FreeOnes is, by comparison, an incredibly nice and troll-free place.

While I don't go there anymore, I used to talk comic books Premium Link Upgrade when I was regularly reading them. It was decent back in the day, can't say how it fares now. Might be worth giving it a shot if you want to talk comics...

Yes, the most poorly moderated site ever!! It's fucked...like fucked. But, I love movies and when ya got nowhere else to go...lol.

And I do visit gamefaqs, just don't have an account there :( Maybe eventually!

Mm. IMDb is... ugh. I'd rather discuss films here. :dunno:

GameFaqs has it's issues too, but the comic board at least used to be good. Had an account there for over a decade, but rarely use it anymore. Sometimes though...

Oh, and...

I guess we have different definitions, we'll leave it at that.

By the way, I believe excellent places as follows...

Shift-0 (0) -> Feeble (2) -> Poor (4) -> Typical (6) -> Good (10) -> Excellent (20) -> Remarkable (30) -> Incredible (40) -> Amazing (50) -> Monstrous (75) -> Unearthly (100) -> ****-X (150) -> Shift-Y (200) -> Shift-Z (500) -> Class 1000 (1000) -> Class 3000 (3000) -> Class 5000 (5000) -> Beyond (∞).

Captain America and Batman would be, like, Amazing... three full tiers above excellent! ;)
