In a letter published nearby, Representative Barney Frank takes us to task for an editorial last week in which we noted his absence from the House's 345-75 vote to defund Acorn, the "community organizing" group that has been caught on video at least five times offering advice on how to evade the authorities while enslaving children as prostitutes. Mr. Frank, whose spokesman tells us he would have voted against the measure (that is, in favor of funding Acorn), has a point. Any implication that he is trying to dodge the matter is mistaken

Even after the recent revelations, Mr. Frank is a vigorous and unashamed defender of Acorn. Yesterday he and House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers sent a letter to the Congressional Research Service (CRS) requesting a "careful and objective analysis of a number of issues concerning ACORN." (Mr. Conyers voted to defund Acorn but later said he did so "accidentally.")

The investigation that Messrs. Frank and Conyers envision does not, to say the least, sound aggressive. They ask the researchers to get to the bottom of, among other things, "the extent to which ACORN has assisted [the] homeless." With respect to the child-prostitution sting, they ask the CRS to look into "conflicting allegations" about "the propriety of these activities"—by which they mean not the advice Acorn gave on getting away with crimes, but "the federal and state laws that could apply to such videotaping and distribution of conversations without the consent of all parties."

So Frank and Conyers think that it is worng to viedotape someone, but not wrong for ACORN to help hookers and bring in illegal immigrants. Like the Wall Street Journal says "Messrs. Frank and Conyers were serious about learning the truth, they'd send their letter to the Justice Department, not the Congressional Research Service".

Barney Frank, you say. Wasn't he the one who worked with Andy in Mayberry? What is Don Knotts up to these days?

While I am certainly not a defender of Frank by any means, I would like to point out that tonight on O'Reilly, he stated that he would have voted against funding ACORN....that there was a misunderstanding in what was said, but that he would have most definitely voted against giving ACORN any more of our money, something I actually find myself in agreement with the guy.

Secondly, to be fair, the reason he was not at the vote was because he was attending the ceremony of the Congressional Medal of Honor that was being awarded to a man, posthumously, that lived in his district. While I am generally not a proponent of Congressmen and women missing important votes, I think it is fair to say that he missed this one for a very good reason.

Again, I am definitely not in love with the guy, but I think the facts, at least as they were presented tonight on the Factor, need to represented.

Which is why I did not highlight the absent part, becasue it was actually for a good reason, Jared Monti.

What I have a problem with is he wants the CRS to look into the pimp and hooker and what they did wrong, instead of dealing with ACORN and what they ARE doing wrong.

Barney Fwank should have been arrested after the affair he had with the head of Freddie Mac came to light. He should have at least been censured. Fooking douche.

I hear ya, I do.....it was interesting to hear him talk about the "laws" that may/may not have been broken by the two reporters.....he CLAIMS that is where he is coming from....that no matter WHO broke laws, on either side, it needs to be investigated. While I agree that breaking laws is never really, fully OK, the two undercover heroes should be given a total "slap on the wrist".....like have to pay a one dollar fine, or something of that nature.

I don't agree with them being gone after at all, but, if laws were broken, which unfortunately it does seem as though they were, much as I hate to say it, then these two should be "punished" ;) to shut Bertha Lewis and rest of the miscreants at ACORN the hell up.

For good.

The Justice Department is going to investigate ACORN now.

I guess we can thank conservatives for the "Patriot Act" and, as a result of their disregard for the law in this ACORN case, that for the rest of all of our lives everything we do in public will be on camera (for protection, of course)....

Thanks Fox News and Conservatives....:hatsoff:

In this particular case, the truth is the truth. No spin needed.

And Barney Frank, like 98% of all the current politicians in Washington, needs to go gently into the night....

By framing the reporting of that Act as if it was above all forms of critical examination and anyone who thought differently was anti-American....

We can thank Fox news directly for our country becoming a camera society as a result of their promoting what is essentially illegally obtained evidence...

The feds cannot bring themselves to censure a gay member of Congress !!
For that would be homophobic, therefore mr. f-wank-ie is immune from any wrongdoing.

And what's with all of these "cutesy" names - freddie's fannie whatever ....:crash:
