Bad Computer Virus

Very Bad Computer Virus

This particular virus makes the icons and the taskbar continually flash on and off so nothing can be accessed making it extremely difficult to get rid of. It's probably in the system32 area but i can't access the start menu for more than 10 seconds before it flashes back off again. Then 5 seconds later it's back on again and so on. More often than not it stays of so the only way to turn the computer off is by the button on the tower. I must have started the computer more than 200 times just today. Can anyone help with this particular virus?

If I'm in your case Digital, I'll start backing up my files and reformat the drive. If you know the name of the virus, you can search for tools (anti-spyware, etc.) to destroy it.

The last time i had this virus AVG removed it but this time i made a mistake with AVG and now it won't detect the virus without deleting the virus vault but i can't access the start button to search and delete it for more than 10 seconds because of the virus.

Another virus scan found something but you have to pay to delete it :crash:

I understand how it feels like. It's too annoying, yes. That's why I suggested that you'd rather reformat the drive 'coz that's how I fix the mess and that's the only way I know that will surely clean the mess. There's too many advice offered across the web when you Google the name of the virus/worm; lots of options but bottom line is you have to pay for an updated anti-virus software to **** it.

I just cleared a similar virus off of one of my friend's computers. Does it also give you a bunch of random "system error" messages?

If you backup the drive, reformat it, and then put the data back on, you just spent a lot of effort to reinfect yourself.

Very, very long shot. I had something like that and windows would pop up asking me if I wanted to delete various icons, text, etc. and then backspace over it, delete stuff on the desktop, etc. After thinking about it, it was the laptop keyboard wearing out. (Yes, no kidding)

I have 2 separate hardrives on my PC; one for the OS and programs and a different one for docs, games, music, etc. I'm really not a techie when it comes to dealing with virus/worms and yes, I agree that my way of cleaning up the mess is a risky one. But it works well on me.

My drive C (OS and programs) is usually the one got infected most of the time bcoz that's where my I save downloaded files from the net (keygens, open source programs, games, etc). I use Kaspersky 7 to scan the files before transferring it to drive D. Like I said, it's way easier for me to reformat if worst comes to worse. I can take your advice if you have one ;)

No. The only thing i can get on is the internet. As it stands right now there is no taskbar at the bottom of the screen and if i closed the internet down i'd just have a blank desktop with no taskbar or desktop icons. The only way to get back on the net is to turn the computer off then back on so everything starts flashing again.

I wish i could reformat everything but unfortunately i don't know how.

I have McAfee but it has failed me. It quarantined the generic downloader and i deleted that but it couldn't spot whatever has got through on to windows\system32 which is making everything flash on and off.

Try Avast. I've read it's the best, and it's free and the only one I use now. Premium Link Upgrade

So, you can't click on "START" or "MY COMPUTER" or anything?

If you can't, have you tried rebooting in SAFE MODE?
