Arealous' Official Silent Hill Thread

I recently started playing Silent Hill 2 and plan on going through the series. It is by far the scariest game I've played in terms of sheer atmosphere and feeling of intensity.

The movie was decent, but it's what lead me to playing the actual game. I could tell after seeing the movie that the style was very much in the artistic sense of a video game. The camera angles and subtle lack of action changed to freakfest really makes it work.

I can't wait for them to release some trailers for Silent Hill 5 on PS3, good lord I think I'd shit my pants playing that game.

Discuss!

Well I've played both 1 & 2 and then quit. Reason why, the first was great but two lost too much of what the first had and was also too easy. So I've never played anymore of them.

The film was alright at best, as usual they made too many changes from the game and ruined it. One of the main mistakes they made was changing from a man to a woman. It just didn't work if you played the game before seeing the film.

Well... SH was revolutionary as far as the survival horror genre goes. Resident Evil is too "Mega Man in 3D with Twitch-scaring" Tyrant, Nemesis, etc.. its no longer a 'zombie' game by many means.

SH always had atmosphere going for it. SH2... excellent game. Good challenge. Incredibly twisted, and if you want to understand the game.. or ANY of the whole series then you'll need to psychoanalyze EVERYTHING to death to find the meaning. I'm serious, there is symbolic meaning behind people's names, locations.. background.. psychoses and their POV on Silent Hill. The story loops back and forth with facts, tidbits of info.. and snippets of what Silent Hill really is. Really isnt. Its.. very, very complicated.

Anyhow, SH3 isnt bad, either. Not as much fun as 2, and more annoying once you get past the upgraded features, new items, puzzles.. etc etc. You know the drill.

SH4..dont know why they tried to 'fix it', because now ITS BROKE! If you're like me then you love the series and cant put it down until you've beaten it. Possibly a few times over for the superweapons and endings, etc. Which leads me to: Dont pick this one up if you're expecting a gem.. cuz its STILL addicting to keep going through that next door.. despite.. you'll see.

Look around for other games, I understand there's also one for the nintendo DS, a couple for cellphones.. and dont forget you can get 1, 3 and 4 for PC. ;)

í have played all silent hill games and i think it´s the best story created for a videogame ever. i like the connected hints from one game to others, and if i had started the series with sh1, i think it would been easier for me to finish 2, 3 and 4. for now im looking forward for silent hill 5.

I've played and completed the first 3 wich I thought were good, but part 4 was so much of a dissapointment to me that I didn't bother in finishing it.
I haven't heard word of a 5th game yet, but I'd definetly be looking forward to it if it'll be coming out.

The first game is still my favorite tough, and the movie was enjoyable IMO.

I definitely enjoy the game for its environment, I tried playing 1 on my computer but it became too much of a hassle because of the controls. I'm loving two so far, I try to play it with a friend because I get so into it I don't think I can play alone.

It has been confirmed that Silent Hill 5 will be released, when, I have not a clue. All I know is that with the PS3 graphics, it's going to be hella crazy.

I'm a huge Silent Hill fan.

SH2 was the first one I played, and still my favorite. It's by far the most replayable; best story, best characters, best atmosphere. I'll never understand why the movie was made with the plot of the first instead of this fantastic and far more accessible story.

On a side not, one thing I've never understood is why everyone hates SH4 so much. My only complaint was that you had to revisit areas that you already went to , but other than that, I enjoyed it. Sure it didn't have the best story, but Walter Sullivan made for a great villain, and there were plenty of terrifying moments.

i think silent hill 2 is one of the best games ever made. silent hill 3 was really good to but the story and music in 2 was just amazing.

Resident Evil 4 on the game cube is brill, but not better than SH 2.
I remember playing SH on the ps1 late at night with all the light s out
the part with the locker in the locker room  i did,nt get much sleep that night.

The above post makes me think...

What moments scared you the most in any of the SH games?
(Note: these might be spoilers for anyone still wanting to play the games)

In SH2, almost every appearance of Pyramid Head. When you're walking around the hotel and he's just standing behind the bars motionless and staring at you...I don't know why, but that image really got to me. Later, when you open the door to leave the hotel and he unexpectedly attacks you in the stairwell (This freaked me out so much the first time I played it, that I didn't fight back, got killed, and had to start over again.)

In SH3, when you enter the room full of mannequins. At first nothing happens, but as you're leaving you hear a scream and a *thunk*. Again, the first time I heard this I freaked out. You re-enter the room, and the only mannequin fully assembled has been decapitated and is bleeding.

I love the Silent Hill games number 2 is my fav i dont think any of the other games managed to capture the atmosphere that SH2 did.
