Here is my question:

Will there be different sizes of iPads? For example, when I have heavy internet usage, will there be a large iPad? On those days when my internet usage is light, should I use a smaller iPad?

Apple continues to complicate things.

Your thoughts on the iPad from Apple?

$829??? My laptop was $900 and is 10x more powerful. This is just a bigger iPhone. I can't imagine this selling well. Even with their marketing team.

I like to read Walter Mossberg's reviews (of the Wall Street Journal of all places) on tech. He pretty much captures the POV of the average tech user.
Here's his initial thoughts on the device.

I'll wait until he comes out with his big review later. But his early impression is more positive than negative, but the negatives might make this a niche product only....:dunno:

I don't see how it's anything more than a large iTouch. :dunno:

It doesn't seem like that bad of an idea. Still, there is no way in Hell I would ever think about paying around $1,000 for that, even if I had a lot more money to blow. It will be an all right thing if the price comes way down on them.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
$1000? I thought the entry model was $499.

that latest new shiny thing to distract us.

Until somebody reviews it's pron watching capabilities, it might as well not exist

From linky #1
Cost of the iPad, which will become available beginning in April, starts at $499 and goes up to $829 for more memory and Wi-Fi and 3G online connectivity. The 3G plans are $14.99 per month for 250 megabytes of data or $29.99 for unlimited downloads.

It sounds like $499 gets the stripped down tablet. $829 gets the one that everyone should have. Then there's the AT&T costs....

I'll go with the iTouch for now (switch to an iPhone when I can leave Verizon) and then see if this thing's caught on or gone the way of the Newton ;)

I can see fine artists and Real Estate or Insurance Agents liking this device. I can't see road warrior sales people trading in a laptop for this. I don't think it's discrete enough for college students to gravitate toward (to hide in the back of a classroom and goof off during lecture)...

Must. Have...

I think it looks useless. I love my ipod but this is just like it only bigger. I saw on G4 that there isn't even a USB port! Plus, in order to get 3G internet with it you have to get a data plan with AT&T!! So anyone with an iPhone has to set up yet another plan in addition to this and you know there are many Mac junkies out there who will have an iphone and then purchase this for some odd reason. Sorry, I see this as selling well initially but it might end up falling flat on its face

It definitely seems like a bigger itouch. Id be more apt to buy it if there were some sort of itouch trade in program where i could get the ipad at a discounted price (no need to have both). Also it would be nice if there were some sort of way to pay a discounted price on the wi-fi/3g service if you already own an iphone. And whats with the lack of a webcam (you know they have the technology)?

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
The only thing I've ever bought from Apple is my iPhone. It is the biggest and most useless piece of shit I've ever owned in my entire existence, and I had a Sega CD system and the Virtua Boy. I can't wait for the contract to be up. I like how in the commercials the phone works like it's supposed to. I wonder what that's like...

I won't by anything from them ever again.

The iPad is getting poor reviews right now because only hi-tech gadget freaks are reviewing it. And frankly, if you're looking for cutting edge technology, this isn't it.

But the iPad will sell, and it will sell well. Because just like lo-tech consumers love the iPod Touch and iPhone for its simplicity and functionality, they'll love the iPad for the same reasons. It is, simply put, the perfect computer for people who hate computers.

I'm already thinking about getting one for both my wife and my mom. What do they need? Probably 99% of their computer usage consists of e-mail, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps, music, cheap little games, news, and weather. Not only does the iPad do all of this, but it puts them each in their own pretty little buttons at the touch of a finger, and now with a screen that won't make my mom squint while she holds it 3' away from her face (she tried to use my iPod Touch once... it didn't go well).

And I'll be able to get them each for $500, because neither of them will come close to using more than 16GB, nor do they need anything more than the WiFi I've already set up in each house. If I bought it for myself, I'd hate it and probably toss it on a shelf to be forever forgotten. But for them? It will instantly become their primary computer.

I still have games for the sega cd and even the 32x attachment, but not the system.

Ipad just looks like a bigger Ipod(in my opinion)
